Reflection Paper: Microteaching Feedback Analysis
1. How did you feel when you first read the instructor’s
feedback and the AI-generated
feedback? Please describe your initial reactions to each.
When I first read the lecturer feedbackWhen I first read my
instructor’s feedback, I felt a deep sense of encouragement and
confidence. It made me feel valued as a future teacher and
motivated me to continue improving my teaching skills. Knowing
that my effort was noticed helped me believe more in my abilities.
Knowing that an experienced educator perceived me as someone
who has "been in this profession for a long time" was incredibly
motivating. On the other hand, my reaction to the AI feedback
was one of technical satisfaction. It was reassuring to see a perfect
score (28/28) and a systematic breakdown of my lesson stages,
which made me feel that my lesson was structurally sound.
2. Understanding Strengths and Weaknesses (Instructor)
The instructor’s feedback helped me better understand both the
emotional and pedagogical impact of my teaching. He emphasized
that I was able to create a friendly, supportive, and enjoyable
classroom atmosphere, which let students feel comfortable and
willing to participate. This showed me that my tone of voice, body
language, and way of communicating with students have a
positive effect on the learning environment.
At the same time, the instructor pointed out an important area for
improvement. He mentioned that instead of using general
listening activities, I should include purposeful listening or
reading tasks with clear aims, like listening for specific
information or completing a task. This feedback helped me realise
that while an activity may seems engaging, it should also have a
clear learning objective. This kind of detail and practical advice is
something only an experienced human observer can notice during
a real classroom interaction.
3. Understanding Strengths and Weaknesses (AI)
The AI feedback was very useful for understanding the structure
of my lesson. It clearly showed that my lesson followed all the
main stages, such as Warm-up, Presentation, Practice, and
Closure. This helped me realize that my lesson plan was well
organized and logically ordered from the beginning to the end.
The AI also explained one of my strengths, which was scaffolding.
It mentioned that I used Turkish to explain some specific words,
like “slumber party,” and this made the meaning clearer for the
students. Through this feedback, I understood that using my first
language in a controlled way can be helpful, especially when
students may not understand new vocabulary in English. Overall,
the AI feedback helped me see the technical side of my teaching.
It did not focus much on emotions or classroom atmosphere, but it
was very helpful in showing that my lesson was clear, structured,
and appropriate for the students’ level.
4. Similarities and Differences
Similarities: Both the instructor and the AI praised my
classroom management, my use of Turkish for
scaffolding, and my ability to keep students highly
involved.
Differences: The instructor’s feedback was more
qualitative and suggestive, focusing on my "voice" and
"pedagogical awareness". The AI was more quantitative,
focusing on whether I checked off specific criteria on a
rubric.
5. Depth of Reflection
The combination of both made me think most deeply. The AI
proved that I met the professional standards (the "what"), while
the instructor’s comments made me think about the "how"—
specifically how my presence and choice of activities like
scrambled words affected the students' motivation.
6. Changes in Thinking
The feedback changed my perspective on lesson timing. The
instructor noted that my vocabulary introduction took "longer
than necessary". This has made me realize that even if an activity
is "engaging," I must balance it with "production-focused
activities" to be more efficient in the future.
7. Trust in Feedback
I really trusted the instructor’s feedback because he is extremely
experienced and knows very well how teaching works in real
classroom. His professional expertise is very impressive, and I felt
that he can really "read the room" and notice small things that
students do or how they react to activities. He also understands
the nuances of my teaching style better than anyone, like when I
use humor or small explanations in Turkish, he knows how it
affects the students learning. I think his feedback is not just about
what I did right or wrong, it is also about how I can improve and
become a much better teacher in future. Honestly, I really admire
his teaching and the way he observe students, it’s inspiring for me.
At the same time, I trusted the AI feedback too, because it works
like a clear "checklist" to make sure I didn't forget any important
steps in my lesson plan. It helped me see that I did follow all the
lesson stages and the structure correctly. But still, I think the
instructor feedback is more valuable, because AI can’t feel the
classroom or understand students emotions like he does.
8. AI Strengths and Limitations
Strengths: AI provides an objective, instant, and highly
organized breakdown of a lesson based on a specific rubric.
It is great for ensuring all "Lesson Stages" are present.
Limitations: AI may not fully grasp the "spirit" of the
classroom or the subtle difference between "listening" and
"listening with a purpose" as effectively as a human.
9. Overall Microteaching Evaluation
I evaluate my microteaching experience as a bit successful.
Because I think I made it a bit simple ot in a detailed [Link]
receiving a "Total Score: 28/28" from the AI and being told my
performance was "excellent" by my lecturer gives me great
confidence in my future career. Being in a scence as a teacher is a
very stressful but on the other hand motivating to become a
teacher. I totally being convinced to become a teacher to young
learners. As far as I learn from Naci Hoca experience in teaching is
really matters. With time I believe myself to do it in a good way.
10. Use of AI in Preparation
I used AI while preparing my lesson as a helpful support tool. At
first, I used it to get ideas about functional phrases for accepting
and refusing invitations. For example, I looked for both polite and
informal expressions that students can use in their daily life. This
made me feel more confident about the language input that I give
to the students during the lesson.
I also used AI to think about practice activities, especially the
crossword puzzle that I used in the practice stage. With the help of
AI, I checked if the vocabulary was suitable for the students level
and if it was easy enough to understand. It also saved my time and
helped me to organize my ideas more clearly. However, I didn’t
depend on AI all the time. I chose and changed the suggestions
based on my lesson aim and students needs. In this way, AI was
useful as a guide, but the final decisions and the lesson design was
completely mine.
