CHOOSE THE CORRECT ANSWER
1. A peacock sitting on the top of a tree of height 10 m observes a snake moving on the
ground. If snake is 10√3 m away from the base of the tree, then the angle of
depression of the snake from the eye of the peacock is :
(a) 60° (b) 45° (c) 30° (d) 90°
2. A ladder 14 m long just reach the top of a vertical wall. If the ladder makes an angle
of 60° with the wall, then the height of the wall is :
(a) 14√3 m (b) 7 m (c) 14 m (d) 7√3 m
3. A 30 m long rope is tightly stretched and tied from the top of pole to the ground. If
the rope makes an angle of 60° with the ground, the height of the pole is:
(a) 10√3 m (b) 30√3 m (c) 15√3 m (d) 15 m
4. The shadow of a tower is equal to its height at 10:45 am. The sun’s altitude is :
(a) 30° (b) 60° (c) 45° (d) 90°
5. From a point on the ground, which is 15 m away from the foot of the tower, the angle
of elevation of the top of the tower is found to be 60°. The height of the tower (in m)
standing straight is:
(a) 15√3 (b) 10√3 (c) 12√3 (d) 20√3
SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS
6. Find the angle of elevation of the top of a pole of height 40√3 m from a point 40 m
away from its foot.
7. If a pole 12 m high casts a shadow 4√3 m long on the ground, find the Sun’s elevation.
8. An observer 1.5 m tall is 28.5 m away from a tower of height 30 m. Find the angle of
elevation of the top of tower from his eye.

LONG ANSWER QUESTIONS
9. A man standing on the deck of a ship, which is 10 m above water level, observes the
angle of elevation of the top of a hill as 60° and the angle of depression of the base
of hill as 30°. Find the distance of the hill from the ship and the height of the hill.
10. If the angle of elevation of a cloud from a point 10 meters above a lake is 30° and
the angle of depression of its reflection in the lake is 60°. Find the height of the
cloud from the surface of the lake.
11. A boy standing on a horizontal plane finds a bird flying at a distance of 100 m from him
at an elevation of 30°. A girl standing on the roof of a 20 meter high building finds the
angle of elevation of the same bird to be 45°.Both the boy and the girl are on the
opposite sides of the bird. Find the distance of the bird from the girl. [Given √2=1.41] .
ASSERTION AND REASON QUESTIONS
In the following questions 12, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by statement
of Reason (R), choose the correct option.
a. Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true and Reason (R) is the correct
explanation of Assertion (A).
b. Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true but Reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of Assertion (A).
c. Assertion (A) is true but Reason (R) is false.
d. Assertion (A) is false but Reason (R) is true.
12. Assertion: A ladder 15 m long just reaches the top of a vertical wall, then the height
of the wall is 75 m.
Reason: If the angle of elevation of a top of a tower from a point on the ground,
which is 30 m away from the foot of the tower is 30°, then the height of the tower is
10√3 m.
CASE STUDY BASED QUESTIONS
13. A drone was used to facilitate movement of an ambulance on the straight highway
to a point P on the ground where there was an accident. The ambulance was
travelling at the speed of 60 km/h. The drone stopped at a point Q 100 m vertically
above the point P. The angle of depression of the ambulance was found to be 30° at
a particular instant.
ACD-105, REV 0, 27.03.2021
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:
(i) Represent the above situation, with the help of diagram.
(ii) Find the distance between the ambulance and the site of accident(P) at the
particular instant.(Use √3 = 1.73)
(iii) Find a time (in seconds) in which the angle of depression changes from 30° to 45°.
