ABSTRACT

AI-based drug repurposing is an emerging approach that uses advanced computational techniques to
discover new therapeutic uses for existing drugs. It speeds up drug discovery by rapidly analyzing large
biomedical datasets such as gene expression profiles, chemical structures, and disease pathways. Using
machine learning and deep learning models, AI uncovers hidden patterns and predicts which approved
drugs could be effective for new diseases. Since the safety and toxicity of these drugs are already known,
repurposing greatly reduces both cost and development time. AI also combines clinical, genomic, and
pharmacological data to improve prediction accuracy, enabling faster screening and better decision-
making. Overall, AI-driven drug repurposing provides a powerful, cost-effective, and efficient strategy
for modern therapeutics and rapid response to emerging diseases.
