Automatic Street Light Project
1. Title
Automatic Street Light using LDR and Solar Panel
2. Objective
The objective of this project is to automatically switch ON the street light when it becomes
dark and switch OFF when it is bright (daytime), using an LDR sensor. The system also uses
a solar panel to charge the battery during the daytime to make it energy efficient and eco-
friendly.

4. Circuit Diagram
(Insert or draw both diagrams — LDR circuit + solar charging circuit — as shown in your
images.)
5. Working Principle
- The LDR changes its resistance according to light intensity.
- In daylight, LDR resistance is low, which keeps the transistor OFF — so the street light
remains OFF.
- At night, LDR resistance increases — transistor conducts — and the LED (street light)
turns ON automatically.
- The solar panel charges the 9V battery during the day.
- The charged battery powers the light circuit at night when solar energy is unavailable.
6. Circuit Explanation
- Q1 and Q2 (BC547 transistors) work as electronic switches.
- R1, R2, R3 resistors control base current and sensitivity of the LDR.
- When light falls on LDR, the base current of Q1 becomes low, turning both transistors OFF.
- When darkness falls, base current increases, both transistors turn ON, and current flows
through the LED — turning the street light ON.
- The solar charging circuit uses a diode and capacitor to store energy safely in the battery
and prevent reverse flow.
