CHAPTER IV
PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
This chapter presents the results, the analysis and interpretation of data gathered from the
answers to the interview distributed to St. Joseph High School Student. The said data were
presented in tabular form in accordance with the specific questions posited on the statement of
the problem.
1. How does teenage pregnancy affect your academic performance?

Respondent 1 My education is affected because of teenage pregnancy I cannot go
to school

I have to take care my baby and go to school its hard to handle
Respondent 3 I cannot manage my study it because I have a baby and I have a lot

Respondent 4 Becoming pregnant at the young age can cause stress and anxiety it
can make it harder to focus on school work and school related
activities

The table shows that most of the respondents state the different ways on effect of
reading as a habit in achieving good academic performance. Respondent 1 helps to develop
critical thinking and analytic skills. Respondent 2 declared that reading can improve their
academic performance by reducing stress and promoting relaxation. The respondents 3-4 state
that reading as a habit is that it can improve their academic performance by enhancing
vocabulary and comprehension skills and also reading improves their vocabulary, writing,
knowledge and understanding of different subjects. Which can broaden their knowledge of
writing conventions and improve their ability to write effectively. Additionally, Respondent 7
states reading helps to write effectively. Which can serve as models for their own writing. The
respondents 5-6 claimed that reading enhances their memory and concentration, and promotes
overall mental well-being. Moreover, Respondent 9 declared that reading can improve their
comprehension skills. Respondent 8 they learn how to express their thoughts and ideas clearly
and coherently. In this question, the reading habit has its valuable importance in students
reading and mind that eventually a good asset to have a good academic performance.
2. What are the possible impact of being a young parent in accomplishing your school works?

Respondent 1 I can’t join in group activities because I have a baby that I need to
take care and my mind is just focus on my family
Respondent 2 Even if I am a young teenage parent I can still manage my school
works and I can pass it on time

assignment due to my parenting responsibilities which can result a
bad impact and it can lower my grades lower grade

The table shows that most of the respondents state the different ways of how reading
habit do usually practice. Respondent 1 is reading in advance which makes you knowledgeable
on particular topics. Respondents 2-3 declared that they read a variety of materials, such as
fiction, non-fiction, news articles, dictionaries and Wattpad. Respondents 8-9 pointed out that
their usual practice is to speed in reading which determines how fast you can access
information. The faster you read, the quicker you access information that comes with many
benefits, such as gaining more knowledge, opening your mind up to more ideas, giving you
more opportunities, helping you improve your focus, and more. The respondents 6-7 respond
that they are practicing taking notes while reading which helps you remember important
information and concepts. Furthermore, the respondents 4-5 declared that they are reading
deeply, rather than skimming through material, taking the time to read deeply and engaging with
the material can help to understand it better and retain more information. In this question, the
Grade 9 respondents states the reading habits they usually practice in which help in achieving
them a good academic performance.
3. Does early pregnancy wonder your interest to continue studying?

Respondent 1 No I never wonder to stop my studies, even if I am modular I would
like to continue no matter what happen
Respondent 2 Even though I have a baby I still want to finish my studies because I
want to give a better life and future to my child
Respondent 3 Even I am a parent now I never thought to stop my studies because I
have a goal to finish my study to find a better job
Respondent 4 Yes, it not hindrance to be pregnant to stop my studies for me I still
need to continue despite that I am pregnant as long as I have a
chance to study

The table shows that most of the respondents state the different ways on how reading
habits enhance their vocabulary. Respondents 1- 5 state that reading habits helps them by
reading every day, every time they have a free time, share what they learned, by understanding
the text of what they read, helps them enhance their memorization. Respondents 6-7 have
similar response to respondents 3-4 as it shows same ideas and thoughts. On the other hand,
respondents 8-9 state that reading habits enhance their vocabulary through pronounce the word
properly and enhance their reading comprehension. In this question, the Grade 9 respondents
shows the importance of reading habits especially to their academic performance as it will have
a huge impact in education if you know how to read.
4. How can teenage parent balance parenting in academic performance?

Respondent 1 I give a half time for my modules and for my studies and half to
spend my time to my baby
Respondent 2 I give a half time to my school activities and half time to take care
my baby
Respondent 3 There are someone to take care of my baby so I have a more time
to focus to my studies
Respondent 4 At first its hard to balance my academic performance at school
because it need to pass my activities on time and also I have a child
to take care so I manage my time to maintain my grades but I know
as a modular student that I cannot avoid a lower grades

The table above shows the response of 9 respondents, state with a yes which indicates
that their reading difficulties lessen through the help of their reading habit. It shows reading
habits has its valuable impact to student’s difficulties in reading.
5. Do you still want to continue amidst the fact that you pregnant?

finish my studies

Respondent 4 Yes, it not hindrance that I am pregnant for me I need to continue
my study as long as I have a chance to continue my studies

The 1 and 2 respondents claimed that social media and technology can easily divert
readers from their reading, and some of their peers were using their phones to distract them
from reading. Respondents 3, 4, and 5 stated that loud surroundings, family issues, anxiety,
deep depression, and stress make it difficult for them to concentrate while reading. They also
stated that it’s because of social media. Respondent number 6 stated that if she had a fever, it
could easily impair her ability to read and have an impact on her reading habits. The 7, 8, and 9
respondents stated that the classmate's interruptions make it difficult for them to concentrate,
and they also stated that they can't concentrate on reading in a chaotic or noisy environment.
Priorities like work or family obligations are also one of the factors affecting their reading habit.
Hence, the factors that students stated, including the noisy environment, family obligations,
social media, anxiety, and loud notifications, affect their reading habits.
6. What are the changes you notice before and after getting pregnant in your academic
performance?

Respondent 1 Its hard to have a baby than nothing because before I can go out
and have a banding with my friends but right now that I have a baby
I cannot go out because it my responsibility and my priority to take
care my baby
Respondent 2 Before I got pregnant, I go to school then whatever there’s a
activities I participate. However, now that I have a baby its hard to
manage both but I still continue my studies and manage my time
Respondent 3 Before there where no barrier in my life, now it’s hard for me
because I have a baby to take care
Respondent 4 Before I can freely go out to have banding with my friend and doing
my activities, however when I in pregnancy I always breakdown
myself so that I cannot concentrate my studies, but now I gotten
improve and doing my activities well in school

The respondents 1, 2, and 3 shared similar ideas in terms of how their reading habits
really help them improve their academic performance and how they can easily analyze the
questions and words in the statement; they also state that it increases their reasoning skills. The
4 and 6 respondents have a similar statement that talks about how their reading habits
improved their academic performance, both in reading comprehension. Respondent 5 states
that it improves vocabulary as well as critical thinking. On the other hand, the respondents (7,
8), state the same thought: if a teacher asked you to read, you could read straight and
eventually understand the context in which the words are used. Respondent 9 stated that
reading widely can help me encounter different ideas and ways of improving my academic
performance. In this question, the way students develop reading habits shows a positive impact
that improves students’ academic performance.
