Creating DEM, Viewshed Analysis,
Hillshade Analysis and Contour

1 Search for the desired area in Google Earth pro to create DEM. You can use existing places also.

2 Create a random path using “CREATE PATH” option in google earth pro. The path could be random, Choose as many
points as possible within the study region. Once you are done, click ok.

3 Save the Path as a .kml file in the GIS folder

Open GPS VISUALISER in browser. Choose “look up elevations” in the dash board.

Input the .kml file to convert it to GPX FILE
.CLICK “ CONVERT AND ADD ELEVATIONS”.

5 Download the GPX file using the Highlighted Link.

6 Open the desired ARCGIS File and import the GPX FILE to Point Feature data set into it. Use arc Tools Box ->
Conversion-> From GPS -> GPX TO FEATURES

7 This Will be the desired Result with a point Feature class made out of the points. If you open the attribute table, you
will see a Field Titled “ ELEVATION”

8 Use ARC Toolbox . 3D Analyst Tool-> Raster Interpolation -> IDW
Use Z value As the
Elevation.

8 The DEM Model is prepared. Change the Properties using right click ion the layer.

9 The DEM can be clipped into the desired geometry using the raster clipping procedure. Colors can be changed using
the Symbology option in Properties by right clicking on the layer.

10 Carryout the Viewshed Analysis using 3D-ANALYST TOOLS -> Visibility -> Viewshed

11 Enter the details of the layers in the Dialogue box.

11 To Create a Hillshade analysis for the given area. ARC Toolbox-> Spatial Analyst Tools-> Surface -> Hillshade

11 Change the properties to add the effects to the hillshade raster image.

11 The contours could also be identified on the Raster Image. Use Spatial Analyst Tools-> Surface Contour. Enter the data
in the Dialogue box.

11 The Contours were created at an interval of 1M , you can Create contours at the desired interval by using the interval
option in the dialogue box. Change the properties by right clicking on the layer.
