SEATWORK:
Answer the following questions about Hardware and Software. Each answer
must be written in 3–5 complete sentences. Be clear, concise, and provide
examples where possible.

Due Date: Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 11:59 pm

Questions:

1. What is the difference between hardware and software, and why are
both essential in a computer system?

Answer:

Hardware is the physical part of the computer, while software is the set of
instructions that tell the hardware what to do. I can think of hardware as the
body and software as the mind because one cannot work without the other.
Without hardware, software has nothing to run on, and without software,
hardware would just sit there useless. That’s why both are needed for a
computer to function properly.

2. How do system software and application software differ in terms of

purpose and function?

Answer:

System software is what makes the computer work and controls the
hardware, like Windows or Linux. It is the base that lets other programs run
properly. Application software is what I use to do tasks, like writing, browsing
the internet, or playing games. In simple words, system software runs the
computer, and application software helps me use it.

3. Why is it important to regularly update both hardware drivers and

software applications?

Answer:
Updating hardware drivers is important because it helps the computer parts
work well with the system, makes them faster, and fixes problems. Updating
software applications is also needed to keep the computer safe from viruses,
improve programs, and solve errors. When I update regularly, my computer
becomes more secure, stable, and runs better.
