1. What is the main distinction between primary source and secondary source?
Primary sources are the materials produced by people or groups and are either participants or
eyewitnesses to the event. These sources range from eyewitness accounts, diaries, letters,
legal documents, official documents (government or private), and even photographs. While the
secondary sources is define as “the testimony of anyone who is not an eyewitness-that is of
one who was not present at the event of which he tells”. These are books, articles, and
scholarly journals that had interpreted primary sources or had used them to discuss certain
subjects of history.
2. Why is primary source important in the study of history?
Primary sources are important for authenticity and more reliable information. It’s more
important especially in the study of history because primary sources will give much more
value and facts in history.
3. What is the purpose of a secondary source?
The purpose of secondary sources is a replacement if there is no primary sources that
can get. Another purpose is it interprets and analyze the primary sources, it also
modified and arrange the primary sources in a suitable format.
4. At present, how do you discriminate between contradicting reports of a single event
from different sources?
By identifying the ones who have the primary sources, or sources that strongly
showing facts/truths. Having photographs or pictures as evidences can also prove
claims. Another is if the source came from a trusted person or site with authorization or
legalization.
5. Why should official records of the government be made accessible to the public?
Official government records should be made public to every citizen. This is usually
done through official government gazettes for public viewing. They are further placed
on local media in order for them to get closer to their audience .
It is the constitutional right of every citizen to access official government records for
any reason, ranging from investigations and even keeping in touch.
The principle of public access to official documents also means that government
officials and other central and local government employees are free to divulge
information, that is to say they are entitled to say what they know concerning a matter
to the media and other outsiders.
