0:00: Considering a career at Amazon?

0:03: Perhaps you’ve already got an interview, or maybe you’re just curious about the ways we’d want to get to know you if

you applied for one.

0:10: The first thing to be aware of is the Leadership Principles.

0:14: We use them every day to come up with ideas and to help us solve problems.

0:19: They’re one of the things that make Amazon peculiar.

0:22: It’s important to be familiar with the Leadership Principles, because these are the criteria against which you’ll be

assessed.

0:29: Which leads us onto the second thing: Behavioral based questions.

0:33: At Amazon, we know it takes courage and inventiveness to deliver things no one thought possible, which is why we’re

curious to hear about your past experiences.

0:44: In your interview you should be ready to think back on your professional career and tell us about any challenges,

unique situations, or problems you faced.

0:53: Ultimately, we’re just as interested in the drive and determination you mustered to face those challenges as we are in

the outcome, which leads us to the third thing.

1:04: The STAR method.

1:06: It’s a simple method you can use to tell us about past challenges you’ve dealt with.

1:11: First, describe the SITUATION, or the context of your example.

1:15: Then describe the TASK, or the goal you were working towards.

1:19: Next, tell us what ACTION you took.

1:22: Use the word ‘I,’ not ‘we,’ to tell us what specific steps you took and what your contribution was.

1:29: And finally tell us what RESULTS you achieved.

1:32: And if you get stuck, just think STAR.
