Dear building manager,
My name is Brian, I am a resident of the building B, unit 2631. I am writing to express my
dissatisfaction with my neighbour in the 2632 unit. The last three weekends he played
music very loudly and he had a party with a lot of people singing, drinking and making so
much noise, in consequence I could not sleep properly, and I must go to work on
weekends in the morning.
This uncomfortable situation makes me stress, exhausted and without energy in my job
causing some complains about my work. I tried to talk with him, but he just ignored me
and I disagree.
I know the building have strict rules for this kind of situations. I would like to recommend
you give him a notice and if he is still causing this situation he must receive a fare.
Thank you very much for your understanding and consideration. I truly appreciate your
help.
Yours sincerely,
Brian Martinez.

Dear Building Manager,
My name is Brian Martinez, and I live in Building B, unit 2631. I am writing to inform you
about an ongoing noise problem coming from my neighbour in unit 2632. For the past
three weekends, he has played extremely loud music late at night and hosted gatherings
that continued until the early morning. As a result, it has been very difficult for me to
sleep.
This situation has affected me significantly. I work early shifts on the weekends, and the
constant lack of sleep has left me feeling exhausted and unable to concentrate properly
at my job. I politely spoke to him about the issue, but he ignored my request and did not
make any changes.
I understand that the building has clear rules regarding noise disturbances. I kindly ask
that you send him a formal notice, and if the problem continues, consider applying a fine
according to the building’s policy.
Thank you very much for your attention. I would appreciate your help in resolving this
matter.
Yours sincerely,
Brian Martinez

(Band 6.5 – 7)
Dear Building Manager,
My name is Brian Martinez, and I am a resident of unit 2631. I am writing to report a
recurring noise disturbance coming from the apartment next to mine. Almost every
night, my neighbour plays loud music well past midnight, and the sound travels directly
through the shared wall.
This situation has become very difficult for me because I normally wake up early for
work. The lack of sleep has affected my concentration and productivity, and I often feel
tired throughout the day. I have tried using earplugs and even spoke briefly with my
neighbour about the issue, but the noise has not improved.
I would appreciate it if you could speak to him formally and remind him of the building’s
quiet hours. Another possible solution would be to ask him to use headphones at night or
lower the volume after 10 p.m.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope it can be resolved soon.
Yours faithfully,
Brian Martinez

Model answer
Dear Mr. Rockwell,
I have been living in this apartment building for six years now, and I have always been a
responsible tenant. I am especially careful to be respectful of my neighbours in this
building. I would like to bring your attention to a problem I am having with one of my
neighbours.
Last month, Mrs. Somers moved into apartment 2A, right next door to me. She enjoys
listening to music late at night, often after midnight. The music is very loud, and I can
easily hear it in my bedroom. It makes it very difficult for me to fall asleep. I have to get
up at 6:00 A.M. to get to work on time, so this is a serious problem for me.
Since Mrs. Somers is new to the building, perhaps she isn't aware of the building rules
about noise at night. I wonder if you would speak to her and remind her of this. Also,
maybe you could post a notice in the lobby about the noise rule for all the tenants to
see.
Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Calvin Harris
