“Audio Information and Media”
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you master the Audio
Information and Media. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning
situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are
arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be
changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.
The module aims to attain the learning outcome namely:
LO 1 – Describes the different dimensions of audio information and media.
LO 1 – Produces and evaluates a creative audio based presentation using design
principle and elements.
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. Identify the different types of audio content;
2. Describe the purposes of audio media and information; and
3. Critique the effectiveness of particular audio information.
Definition of Terms:
Audio Media – It is recording, transmission, reception, and reproduction of sound used
for communication, information dissemination, and entertainment.
Audio Podcast – A digital audio or video file or recording, usually part of a themed series
that can be downloaded from a website to a media player or computer.
Hearing – Is simply the act of perceiving sound by ear.
Listening – Is something you consciously choose to do.
Principles of Sound Design – The techniques for combining the different elements or
objects.
Media and other information providers play a central role in information and communication
processes. Nowadays, media become the common outlet of self-expression and creativity. Its huge
influence spreads speedily across the globe. The connection between technological advances and
people’s connectivity created a huge impact on the lives of today’s generation. This module covers all
the above mentioned concepts.
Visual media and information is one of the effective means in disseminating important
messages. With the right combination of design elements, instructional messages will
effectively deliver.

Combining text and visual is one of the best ways to deliver information to wide variety of
audience for it promotes critical and creative thinking. However, information can be also be
sent and received through the use of one’s ears.
AUDIO MEDIA
Information dissemination is not only delivered through texts and visuals. It can also be
heard. However, hearing alone is not enough to fully consume the information, this information
from audio media require listening. Listening refers to something that is consciously chosen to
do and requires concentration. On the other hand, hearing is an act or perceiving sound by the
ear.
With the never ending innovation of media, information may come into different audio file
type such as:

Ways of storing audio media may be done through the use of tape, CD, USB drive, memory card, and
computer hard drive.
