ACTIVITY 1
SPOT THE
PARALLELOGRAM
INSTRUCTIONS
Project four figures on the board
(square, kite, generic quadrilateral,
rectangle without grid). Learners will
write their guesses in a ¼ sheet of
paper to show which figure(s) they
think are parallelograms.

Kinds of
Parallelograms
and Their
Properties
 I can identify the properties of a
parallelogram.

LEARNING  2. I can analyze how the sides,

angles, and diagonals of a
TARGETS parallelogram are related to one
another.
3. I can use parallelogram
conditions to solve unfamiliar or real-
world geometric problems.
What is a
Quadrilateral?
- It is a four-sided polygon.
- This means it is a closed figure
with four straight sides and four
vertices (corners).
What is a
Quadrilateral?
- The sum of the interior angles of
any quadrilateral is always 360
degrees.
- A parallelogram is a special
quadrilateral.
What is a
Parallelogram?
 A parallelogram is a quadrilateral
with both of opposite sides are
parallel.
In simpler terms:
 Top and bottom are parallel.
 Left and right are parallel.
Kinds of Parallelogram
Conditions of
Parallelograms
and Their
Properties
Condition 1: Both of opposite
sides are parallel (∥).
1. Quadrilateral ABCD
Example
List the pairs of opposite sides that are parallel to
each other.

ANSWER:
• 𝑩𝑳 ∥ 𝑬𝑼
• 𝑩𝑬 ∥ 𝑳𝑼
Condition 2: Both pairs of opposite
sides are congruent (≅).

Rectangle ABCD

𝑨𝑩 ≅ 𝑫𝑪
𝑩𝑪 ≅ 𝑨𝑫
Condition 3: Opposite angles are
congruent (≅).
Quadrilateral

∠𝑨 ≅ ∠𝑪
∠𝑩 ≅ ∠𝑫

Condition 4: The consecutive angles
are supplementary.
Quadrilateral ABCD
Condition 5: Diagonals bisect each
other.
Quadrilateral ABCD
Condition 6: Each diagonal bisects
the parallelogram into two congruent
triangles.
Quadrilateral ABCD
It shows a quadrilateral ABCD.
The diagonal CB (drawn in red)
connects vertices C and B. The
text explicitly claims that the
two triangles formed by this
diagonal are congruent:
∆𝑨𝑩𝑪 ≅ ∆𝑫𝑪𝑩
This diagram illustrates the property of
alternate interior angles formed when a
transversal (AC) intersects two parallel lines
(AD and BC, or AB and DC).
The red arcs mark the pair of alternate
interior angles ∠𝐷𝐴𝐶 and ∠𝐵𝐶𝐴.
The blue arcs mark the other pair of
alternate interior angles ∠𝐵𝐴𝐶 and ∠𝐷𝐶𝐴.

CHALLENGE
INSTRUCTIONS
I will read a statement then, if you
think the statement is ENOUGH to
prove that the quadrilateral is a
parallelogram —STAND UP. And if
you think the statement is NOT
ENOUGH — REMAIN SEATED.
STAND OR SIT?
1. Both pairs of opposite
sides are parallel.

CONDITION 1
STAND OR SIT?
2. Only one pair of opposite
sides is parallel.

PROBLEM
SOLVERS
INSTRUCTIONS
The class will be divided to 5 groups.
Each group will receive (same) three
parallelogram problems assigned to
your group by applying the correct
properties to find unknown sides,
angles, and diagonal segments. They
will be given 10 minutes to finish the
said activity.

GUIDE
QUESTIONS
1. What parallelogram property did
your group use for each problem?
2. How do you know this property
is the correct one to use?
3. After finding the variable, how
will you check if your answer is
correct?
4. What difficulties did your group
encounter and how did you
resolve them?
5. How confident are you in the
accuracy of your answers? Explain.
PART I.
IDENTIFICATION
Directions: Write the correct property or
condition of a parallelogram being described.
1. It states that both
pairs of opposite sides
never meet even if
extended.
2. It states that both
pairs of opposite sides
have equal length.
3. It states that both
diagonals cut each
other exactly at their
midpoints.
4. It states that
opposite angles of the
quadrilateral have the
same measure.
5. It states that two
angles next to each
other add up to 180°.
PART II.
IDENTIFICATION
Directions: Read the real-life scenario carefully.
Use your understanding of the conditions that
guarantee a quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
Analyze the measurements provided and answer
the questions that follow. Explain your reasoning
clearly and completely.
Scenario:
A carpenter wants to verify if a
window frame is a parallelogram.
He measures the diagonals and
finds:
• Diagonal AC = 50 cm
• Diagonal BD = 50 cm
• They interact each other
exactly at their midpoints.
Questions:

1. Which parallelogram condition

is satisfied by the window
frame?
2. Is the window frame a
parallelogram? Yes or No? And
Why?
