Problem & Research Objective Statement

GYF faces a pressing challenge as the rise of adblocking threatens its primary
source of revenue—digital advertising. Businesses that purchase ad space on
GYF question the value of their investment when ads are not reaching
audiences, while end users increasingly adopt adblockers due to
dissatisfaction with intrusive ad formats. This dual tension risks undermining
both advertiser trust and user engagement, creating a strategic problem that
requires deeper investigation. The DATA Team must therefore examine the
motivations and behaviors of both key populations: advertisers (customers)
and end users (consumers). Specifically, the team needs to identify why
users block ads, how advertisers perceive campaign effectiveness on GYF’s
platforms, and what alternative models could deliver value to both groups.

The research objective is to provide actionable insights that inform GYF’s

adblocking strategy. Exploratory research will uncover perceptions and
motivations among users and advertisers through tools like focus groups,
online communities, and social media analytics. Descriptive research will
quantify the scale of adblocking by demographics, usage, and advertiser
categories using surveys and mobile data analytics. Causal research will
test potential interventions such as new ad formats, subscription options, or
pricing changes through A/B testing and pricing analysis. Together, these
approaches will guide a balanced strategy that preserves revenue while
enhancing user experience.
