THE HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your
faithful and kindle in them the fire of your
love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be
created. And you shall renew the face of the
earth.
Let us pray,
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit
did instruct the heart of your faithful. Grant
us the same Spirit to relish what is right and
ever to rejoice in His consolation.
Through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.
Saint John Baptist De La Salle, Pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, Amen.

OBJECTIVES
1. Give the overview of the unit;
2. Inform of the performance and contents
standard, and performance task required for the unit;
3. Identify the learning areas they may
encounter throughout the unit;and
4. Give their initial knowledge on Functions
and Its Graphs.
RATIONAL
E Quadratic equations, inequalities, and functions are more than algebraic
curiosities—they are widely used in science, business, and engineering.
The U-shape of a parabola can describe the trajectories of water jets in a
fountain and a bouncing ball, or be incorporated into structures like the
parabolic reflectors that form the base of satellite dishes and car
headlights. Quadratic equations, inequalities, and functions help forecast
business profit and loss, plot the course of moving objects, and assist in
determining minimum and maximum values. Most of the objects we use
every day, from cars to clocks, would not exist if someone somewhere
hadn't applied quadratic functions to their design.
CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of
graphing of the quadratic functions.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner is able to investigate thoroughly mathematical
relationships in various situations, formulate real–life problems
involving graphing of the quadratic functions.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES
At the end of the unit, you should be able to accomplish with 85% accuracy the
following objectives:
1. illustrates quadratic equations.
2. solves quadratic equations by: (a) extracting square roots; (b) factoring; (c)
completing the square; and (d) using the quadratic formula.
3. characterizes the roots of a quadratic equation using the discriminant.
4. describes the relationship between the coefficients and the roots of a quadratic
equation.
5. solves equations transformable to quadratic equations (including rational
algebraic equations).
6. solves problems involving quadratic equations and rational algebraic equations
7. illustrates quadratic inequalities
8. solves quadratic inequalities.
9. solves problems involving quadratic inequalities.
10. models real-life situations using quadratic functions
11. represents a quadratic function using: (a) table of values; (b)
graph; and (c) equation
2
12. transforms the quadratic function defined by = ax + bx + c into
2
the form y = a(x – h) + k
13. graphs a quadratic function: (a) domain; (b) range; (c) intercepts;
(d) axis of symmetry; (e) vertex; (f) direction of the opening of
the parabola
14. analyzes the effects of changing the values of a, h and k in the
2
equation y = a(x – h) + k of a quadratic function on its graph
15. determines the equation of a quadratic function given: (a) a
table of values; (b) graph; c) zeros.
16. solves problems involving quadratic functions
PERFORMANCE
TASK e- PARABOLIC STRUCTURE MODEL
Goal: Your goal is to design and create an e- model of a parabolic structure that
illustrates the properties of quadratic functions, including vertex, axis of
symmetry, and intercepts.
Role: You are a civil engineer tasked with designing a parabolic arch for a new
pedestrian bridge.
Audience: The audience includes your classmates, teachers, and local community
members who will evaluate your design based on its mathematical
accuracy and aesthetic appeal.
Situation: You have been given the opportunity to present your e- parabolic structure
model at a school exhibition. You must demonstrate how your design
reflects the principles of quadratic functions and its real-world applications.
PERFORMANCE
TASKYou will create an e- model of your parabolic structure using 3D modeling
Product:
software. Additionally, you will prepare a presentation that includes:
❑ A diagram showing the quadratic function that represents your structure.
❑ An explanation of how the properties of the parabola relate to your design.
❑ A discussion on the practical implications of using parabolic shapes in engineering.
Standards:
❑ Design Creativity (20 points): Originality and aesthetic appeal of the e- parabolic
model.
❑ Presentation Clarity (20 points): Effectiveness in communicating the mathematical
concepts and design rationale during your presentation.
❑ Real-World Application (20 points): Insight into how e- parabolic structures are used
in engineering and architecture.
