My Mathematical Autobiography

I am a man who happened to develop my interest in Mathematics along my studies. I was

born in a place where many people consider our family to be very good in Mathematics because
of my father. He is known in our place to be intelligent in the subject when he was still studying.
My siblings used to excel as well in the same subject when they started studying. Knowing this
situation has driven me to study in advance about basic knowledge in the subject even before I
entered my first grade. At first, I tried my best because many are expecting me to be best in the
subject like my father and my other siblings. Thus, I have learned adding and subtracting
numbers before I went to elementary school. However, later on I realized my personal interest in
the subject,

When I started studying, I thought that it would just be easy learning the subject because
I am trying hard but was wrong. I come to know that the subject is very hard as we try to explore
deeper where we encounter new ideas. I still remember during my elementary grades when my
teacher told us to solve the problem and whoever could fish it immediately will be able to take
their lunch immediately. I submitted my output the moment I finished it and waited my teacher
to correct and I got zero. I was shocked and tried to know where I did go wrong. I tried to answer
again because I cannot accept my score but I got zero again. It was my fourth try I guess when I
got one point out of five items. I was already tired and hungry and during that time, getting that
score was so blessed. At least I got an improvement. That moment made me realize that
Mathematics is thrilling and the more I find it difficult the eager I try to learn it. Having known
of its difficulty made me spend more time to it and have more focus on the subject. Then, I found
myself enjoying it. Solving difficult problems sometimes stresses me but the joy I feel when I get
the correct answer is so great, and the awards I got in the subject inspired me to study harder.

During my secondary school, Mathematics was getting harder as I expected. But I

continue doing my best. I happened to encounter my first favorite teacher in the subject when I
was in seventh grade. The subject seemed so easy for him every time he teaches us. I started
admiring him for being great in Mathematics that he imparted us the knowledge I wanted and
needed. I am also grateful about him because he helped me out surviving those difficult problems
that I have encountered by teaching me how to solve them. He was also my coach during the
Math competitions I joined and made us close to each other. It was during my seventh grade also
when I considered the subject as my most favorite. Since then, I started to view my future that is
related to the subject. Thus, most of my choices during my application to study in college are all
related in Mathematics.

Currently, I am studying Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics. I am

so happy about it. I love numbers and I enjoy analyzing and solving problems. My life with
Mathematics since then was not easy but it was totally great for me. So, I am aware with the
difficulties and challenges that I will be facing in my chosen field but I will try my best, as
always to face them all.
