Part A: Write background information for this rubric.


You will write information about the EMI course that this rubric would be in.

• Tip: Refer to the Course and Student Profile that you completed in Module 1. You can also refer to Video
1.3 Student Needs when Learning in an EMI Course and Video 1.4 Assessing Student Needs for Learning in
an EMI Course. Review Module 2: Video 2.4: Creating a Syllabus for an EMI Course for guidelines on
writing student learning objectives or syllabus. Refer to Module 4 content for ideas for types of
assessments and assignments.

• Write the name of the EMI course this rubric would be for.

• Write the student learning objectives from your EMI Syllabus. Note: If you would like to revise any
student learning objectives or make new ones, you can.

• Write the assignment that your rubric will be for and if it is formative or summative. Note: If you would
like to revise any assignments from the EMI Draft Syllabus, you can.

Part B: Create the rubric.


You will create the rubric. You can use the template below if you want to.
• Write 3-5 criteria you will assess on the left side of the rubric.

• Write 3 performance levels across the top of the rubric (e.g., expert, proficient, and novice) and assign
points to each level (e.g., expert = 3 points, proficient = 2 points, and novice = 1 point).

• Write a performance descriptor for each criteria level.

• Create the layout of the rubric. You can create the rubric with an online rubric builder such as iRubric,
Quick Rubric, or RubiStar, in a word processing program, or on the template provided in this module.
