CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR)
AND RESCUE BREATHING FOR
ADULT AND INFANT
Good morning Mr./Ms. Assessor, I am/My name is ______________________________ from UCTC
Ormoc, I am here to demonstrate proper CPR and Rescue Breathing for Adult/Infant - ABC. I am about to
start my demonstration.
SURVEY THE SCENE
The scene is safe. I have one possible victim here. I am ____________ a trained first-aider from UCTC
and Red Cross. Can I help? What happen?
CHECK THE RESPONSIVENESS
Hey ma’am/sir are you okay? – Verbal
Hey ma’am/sir are you okay? – (Tap the shoulder for adult, tap the extremities for the infant)
The victim is unresponsive, kindly activate medical assistance and transfer facilities while I check the
patient’s condition.
CHECK THE AIRWAY
HEAD TILT – CHIN LIFT MANEUVER IF NO SPINAL INJURY
JAW THRUST MANEUVER IF THERE IS SUSPECTED SPINAL INJURY
Check the mouth for possible obstruction
Airway is clear
CHECK THE BREATHING – Look, Listen and Feel
(Position your ear in the mouth of the victim and observe the rising and falling of the victim’s chest)
Count. 1, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, 1006, 1007, 1008, 1009, 1010.
The victim is breathless.
Give 2 initial blows – (position your ear in the victim’s mouth after each blow.)
1st blow – air bounces back, reposition and retilt.
2nd blow – air bounces back.
ADULT AND CHILD – GIVE 5 CHEST TRUST
INFANT - GIVE 5 CHEST TRUST AND BACK SLAPS
If the object is seen dislodge the object in recovery position, after dislodging the object, give another 2
blows
1st blow, 2nd blow – air passes through.
CHECK THE CIRCULATION
(Position your ear near the victim’s mouth, observe the rising and falling of the chest, position your
fingers in the pulse area of the victim)
ADULT - CAROTID PULSE (neck part)
INFANT - BRACHIAL PULSE (arm part) AND POPLITEAL PULSE (back of the knee)
Then count. 1 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, 1006, 1007, 1008, 1009, 1010.
The victim has no pulse and no breathing.
Kindly reactivate medical assistance and transfer facility while I perform CPR.
ADULT AND CHILD
(Position your hands in the sternum area of the victim, start with chest compressions and after every
cycle give two blows, in every blow pinch the nose of the victim and release it after every blow then
position your ears near the victim’s mouth and observe the rising and falling of the victim’s chest then
resume compression.)
Counting:
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,6,17,18,19,20,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 1 (give 2 blows)

(Position your 2 fingers in the sternum area of the victim, start with chest compressions and after every
cycle give two blows, in giving blows cover the victims nose and mouth with the first-aiders mouth, after
every blow then position your ears near the victim’s mouth and observe the rising and falling of the
victim’s chest then resume compression.)
Counting:
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,6,17,18,19,20,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 1 (give 2 blows)

(Position yourself near the victim’s mouth, place your elbow on the ground while the hands is
supporting the head the other hand is for head-tilt maneuver.)
ADULT AND CHILD – pinch the nose, blow, release and count
Counting:
BLOW 1, 1002, 1003, 1001
BLOW 1, 1002, 1003, 1002
BLOW 1, 1002, 1003, 1003
BLOW 1, 1002, 1003, 1004
BLOW 1, 1002, 1003, 1004
UP T0 24 CYCLES
INFANT – cover the victim’s nose and mouth with the rescuer’s mouth, blow and count.
Counting:
BLOW, 1, 1001
BLOW, 1, 1002

BLOW 1, 1004
BLOW 1, 1005
UP TO 40 CYCLES
(After you complete the cycles, check the pulse and breathing then count)

The victim has now pulse and now breathing and has been recovered
Position the victim into recovery position.
(For adult and child put the left arm on the chest and the right arm upward then turn the victim away
from you then rub the back. For infant, carry the baby as if you are going to burp the baby.)
