CHAPTER 2
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
1. According to (Khan et al., 2021) Study habits are the regular, routine behavior of
studying that also affects the cognitive process. Study habits encompass a wide range of
tasks, such as time management, goal-setting, choosing a suitable study space, taking
notes in an appropriate manner, and structuring a study schedule. Academic achievement
is dependent on study habits. Students’ academic performance is greatly enhanced by a
consistent study schedule because it fosters a sense of productivity and efficiency that
raises test scores while lowering stress levels. Researchers asserted that there is a link
between study habits and academic performance and that these habits are one of the
factors that contribute to academic success.
According to (Loan, 2021) Study habits are the approaches or routines one uses to absorb the
information and succeed in their studies. These are distinguished by the manner, timing, and
motivation of study. Study habits are the regular time a person dedicates to understanding a
phenomena, getting ready for an exam, or pursuing a degree. The different behavioral patterns
someone adopts to be ready for an exam or acquire academic subject are called study habits.
Academic success is primarily prompted by effective study habits. Study habits are crucial for
both academic achievement and the overall development of a person’s personality.
According to (Rabia et al., 2017) An important factor in the growth of knowledge and perception
is good study habits. A person’s study habits reveal his or her level of learning, degree of ambi
on, and desired income. All of these could be chosen throughout the course of a life me with the
aid of one’s study habits. As a result, it is believed that study habits and academic success are
related.
According to (Tus et al., 2020) The founda on of a learner’s academic performance is their study
habits. It is a rou ne ac vity that students carry out on a daily basis, much like reading, taking
notes, leading study groups, and meeting learning objectives. Depending on how well it benefits
the pupils.
According to (Khalid et al. 2024) is significantly hand on the theory that a good study habits
promotes effective learning as it involves the application of appropriate techniques and attitude
towards the acquisition of knowledge by students
According to (Alejandro L. Giray., and Ronato S. Bollando 2025) Study habits are the most
important predictions of academic performances students must learn and apply study skills to
organize and learn a long amount of information. It also assured thrice level of study habits
across various categories including time management, concentration, note-taking, reading
comprehension, test preparation and test taking, reading disposition, writing disposition, and test
anxiety management, additionally the study examined the relationship between the respondents
and their study habits.
According to (Sassy prepacademy 2025) Good study habits are essential skills that can make a
big difference in a student’s learning journey. They help students manage their time better, focus
more on their studies, and feel less stressed about their assignments without good study habits,
keeping up with their school work can be difficult and students can feel overwhelmed and
stressed out. When students have strong study habits, they develop a sense of control own their
disarming. They know how to organize their work, set priorities, and manage their time well.
According to (Mahasneh and Alwan 2023), students’ study habits directly influence their internal
motivation, confidence, and overall academic outcomes. In their research, they found that
students with poor study habits—such as last-minute reviewing, inconsistent schedules, and
multitasking—often experience higher levels of anxiety and procrastination. On the other hand,
students who adopt structured approaches, such as rewriting notes, using active recall, and
organizing academic tasks through planners, demonstrate significantly better comprehension and
performance.
Their study also points out that modern distractions like smartphones and social media heavily
disrupt study routines. They conclude that effective study habits do not only improve grades but
also increase students’ ability to manage stress, process information deeply, and engage
meaningfully with their coursework. The authors recommend that students develop time-
management skills and reduce digital distractions to maintain productive study patterns.
According to (Credé and Phillips 2024) argue that study habits are one of the strongest predictors
of academic achievement across various grade levels. Their study shows that students who
maintain organized routines, such as reviewing lessons daily, setting specific study hours, and
creating distraction-free environments, achieve higher academic performance than students who
study irregularly. They also emphasize that study habits are more influential than raw
intelligence because they reflect discipline, consistency, and ability to apply learning strategies.
The authors additionally highlight that habits such as spacing study sessions, taking effective
notes, summarizing readings, and using self-testing methods significantly improve long-term
retention. Their findings support the idea that academic success is not solely based on cognitive
ability but is greatly shaped by how students structure and manage their learning time. This
suggests that schools should invest in teaching effective study skills as part of their curriculum.
According to (Jhoselle Tus, Reymark Luho, Framais Rayo, and Mark Anthony Cruz 2020) Study
habits are at the core of learner’s academic success. It is an action like reading, taking notes,
conducting study groupes that students perform frequently, and regularly accomplishing the
learning goals. It can be dyimed as effective or counterproductive based on whether it ensures
the students well.
According to (Sarwar and Zulfiqar 2022) that the quality of study habits—not the number of
hours spent studying—determines academic success. Their research reveals that high-achieving
students commonly adopt strategic study behaviors such as making study goals, breaking lessons
into manageable parts, and reviewing materials regularly rather than studying only before exams.
They also highlight that students who engage in collaborative learning, ask questions in class,
and participate in peer discussions develop higher-order thinking skills and better academic
confidence.
The authors explain that effective study habits help students build self-regulation, which is
crucial in higher education where independent learning is required. Their findings show that
students who track their progress and adjust their study methods based on feedback achieve
improved academic results. This shows that study habits play a crucial role in shaping not only
knowledge but also study motivation and learner autonomy
According to (David et al. 2024) students’ habits depend on their goals, motivation, and daily
routines. Even though students know effective study strategies, they often choose methods that
feel easier or faster. Many struggle with digital distractions like social media, which makes it
harder to maintain good habits. The researchers concluded that forming effective study habits
requires strong motivation, clear goals, and fewer distractions. Schools can help by guiding
students to set long-term goals and teaching them self-regulation skills.
