9 A cyclist was travelling on a route which is made up of two different terrains.

Terrain 1 is 50 km long. She travelled at constant speed of x km/h on this terrain.

(i) Write down an expression, in terms of x, for the time taken to complete Terrain 1. [1]

Terrain 2 is 44 km shorter than Terrain 1 and the surface is very rocky. She decreased her
travelling speed by 16 km/h.

(ii) Given that the total time for the whole ride was 4 hours, write down an equation in x and
show that it reduces to x 2 − 30 x + 200 = 0 . [3]
(iii) Solve the equation. [2]
(iv) Calculate the time taken to complete Terrain 2. [1]

12 The revenue ($R) of a shop selling coffee at $p per cup can be modelled by the quadratic graph
below.

Using the given graph, estimate

(i) the revenue when coffee was sold at $2 per cup, [1]
(ii) the maximum revenue and the corresponding selling price per cup, [2]
(iii) the coordinates of the horizontal intercept and explain the significance of this point. [2]

The shop also sells milk tea at $p per cup and the revenue ($R) can be modelled by the function
R = 500 p − 200 . When the revenue for each drink is at $700, which drink cost more per cup?
Explain your answer by drawing the graph, R = 500 p − 200 on the same axes. [2]
