Skill Matrix – FAQ & Submission Guidelines

1. What is the Skill Matrix?

The Skill Matrix is a training-needs evaluation repository used to map the current and expected
skill levels of QA employees.

2. Is the Skill Matrix a performance evaluation tool?

No. It is not a performance assessment mechanism. It is a growth-focused framework that helps

plan learning pathways and build capability for future organizational needs.

3. What is the purpose of the Skill Matrix?

The Skill Matrix helps identify strengths, highlight development areas, and guide future-ready
training opportunities.

4. Who are responsible for filling the Skill Matrix?

All Line Managers (LMs) are responsible for filling out the Skill Matrix along with their
respective team members.

5. Which roles are included in this skill level evaluation?

The following roles must be evaluated:

 Jr. QA Engineer/QA Engineer/Sr. QA Engineer

 QA Analyst/Sr. QA Analyst
 QA Lead/Sr. QA Lead
 QA Manager/Sr. QA Manager

6. How skill matrix needs to be filled?

For any LM who is filling the skill matrix, they needs to mention all the employees under them.
It is mandatory to fill current rating for all the skills regardless whether person has exposure or
not.
LM needs to fill current and expected(not mandatory) skill level for an employee for every skill
mentioned. They also need to add additional comments which would help CDC team to plan
trainings for the employees and relevant comment needs to be mentioned.

7. What are the evaluation criteria?

Evaluation criteria can differ based on employee role and current skill level needs to be mentioned after
checking with employee.
For eg: For any skill ‘NRM’, QA engineer can be skill levelled at 4 depending on his expertise whereas QA
Manager can be skill levelled at 2. This skill level would not have any negative impact on QA manager as
his main role is not test execution but test management. QA manager would have different set of
business skills on which he can be better evaluated.

8. What are skill levels?

Skill levels are defined from Level 0 to Level 4 with each level holds different meaning for QA/Sr
QA Eng ,QA Analyst/Sr QA Analyst,Leads & Above. More relevant info around this can be seen in
‘template’ sheet of skill matrix excel.

9. Is current and expected skill level mandatory to be filled by LMs?

Current: Skill level needs to be added from 0 to 4 depending on person's expertise and it is a
mandatory field.

Expected: This is not a mandatory field and if LM or resource thinks to be upskilled or he can be
given some relevant skills project which will upgrade his skill level, expected field needs to be
added. This will act as a kickstart for CDC team to have trainings organized if any for upskilling
that specific skill. Relevant comment needs to be added in Overall comments(Mandatory)if any
sort of trainings for specific skill is needed.
