Squares, Cubes & Art in Math Project

The Mathematics Project titled 'Squares and Cubes' for Class VIII integrates mathematical concepts with art, focusing on squares, square roots, cubes, and cube roots, while also honoring mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. It includes various calculations, activities related to polygons and Warli art, and acknowledges the support received during the project. The project is part of the summer vacation homework for the session 2025-26 at DAV Public School, HAL Korwa, Amethi.

Introduction

This project covers squares, square roots, cubes and cube roots along with creative activities that
link maths with art. It also highlights the work of Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Chapter 1: Squares and Square Roots

- Least number to add to 7083: 142

- Multiply 180 by 5 to get 900, square root 30
- Square root of 4401604 by long division is 2098
- Estimated roots: sqrt(10) approx. 3.162, sqrt(3) approx. 1.732
- Multiply 9408 by 2 to get 18816, square root 137
- Divide 9408 by 6 to approach perfect square (1568)
- There are 50 numbers between 25 squared and 26 squared
- Pythagorean triplet with 6 is 6, 8, 10
Chapter 2: Cubes and Cube Roots

- Divide 8788 by 19 to get a perfect cube

- Multiply 137592 by 2 to get 275184, cube root 65
- Cube root of -3375 is -15
- Given numerical expression evaluates to 0
- Proof: (3x)^3 equals 27 times x^3
- Cube root of 12167 by estimation is 23
Activity 3: Exterior Angles

For any polygon, the exterior angles always sum to 360 degrees. The diagram below shows this for
a pentagon.
Activity 4: Warli Art

Warli art uses simple geometric shapes. The drawing below shows a circular dance pattern
demonstrating symmetry.
Activity 5: Srinivasa Ramanujan

Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920) was an Indian mathematical prodigy. Key work includes
Ramanujan Prime, mock theta functions, fast series for pi, and research on partitions. India marks
22 December as National Mathematics Day in his honor.
