A Review on the Weldability and Microstructure
Analysis of Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI)
Abstract — Austempered ductile irons (ADI) could be produced with a wide range of mechanical properties
depending on the austempering conditions. Welding is the important joining and repairing process for this metal. In
this study the method, Electrode, Effects of alloying materials are discussed. The Ni-Mn alloy reveals good
weldability of Ductile iron and minimizes the post weld treatment. Other welding electrodes require post welding
treatment, with high austempering time forms the ausferrite matrix. Mn, Si, Al are the essential materials for the
formation of ausferrite matrix, their addition beyond levels reduces the mechanical properties of this metal.
