2. From the Module on Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory, I learned that
Sigmund Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory is about the personality organization and the dynamics of personality
development. I learned the important representations of the level of mental life, structure of personality, and stages
of development. In this module, I got to know deeply about the Id, Ego, and Superego, which for me was one of the
most remarkable feature in this lesson. I learned that Id is the concept or personality that espouses the personality
of a person being driven by sexual and aggressive urges. This concept is more on our desires, wants, demands,
pleasure, and satisfactions that is a selfish instinct. Just like what Ms. Balabagan mentioned in her report about
preparing and studying for a possible quiz. Then, the ego concept. I learned that it’s the moderator. It mediates
between Id and Superego. It is the realistic concept of personality that does logical thinking. Ego is more organized.
For the structure of personality, which is the Superego, I learned that it’s the opposite of Id. It’s about morality and
good decisions. When Id urges a person to forget about studying and instead do things a person desires, Superego
on the other hand is responsible for the sense of virtuous. It urges a person to do the relevant and good things.
I also gained a lot of realizations in the psychosexual development base on Freud’s theory. In the constructed table
illustrated in the report, emphasis on the different outcomes and situations of Ken, Dave, and Fiona were elaborated
and discussed. Environmental factors, motivation, practices, and other driving forces affect the oral, anal, phallic,
latency, and genital development of a child. For example, in the given situation of Ken, in the anal development, his
parents praise his attempts to use the toilet and encourage him to learn at his own pace. This resulted for him to
develop a competent personality and god and balanced relationships with authority. Unlike the situation of Dave,
wherein his parents force potty training on him too early and punish him for mistakes. This resulted for him to an
anal-retentive personality and he became an over-controlling and stingy adult, with disgust for his own body and he
likely obey the authority. And Fiona, who was neglected by her parents and didn’t made an effort at potty training
entirely, she develops an anal-expulsive personality. She becomes messy, disorganized, inconsiderate of other
people’s feelings, and rebellious against the authority. The three situations emphasized how our early training and
the influences of external factors, can deeply affect our growth, development, personality, and most importantly how
we deal with ourselves and the people around us. In addition, I learned the importance of our environment, how we
were guided and raised by our guardians or parents, and as well as the foundation of our learning, to the person we
are in the present.
3. How is this topic beneficial to teachers?
For me, the topic is beneficial to teachers as it provides insights and concepts about how the influence of the
developmental process and external driving forces affects the child’s growth and development. This will let the
teachers understand deeply about how unfavorable and unsympathetic environmental conditions and parents lack
of support can greatly affect a child. With this, a teacher can play the role on how to effectively and positively
influence the child to learn and progress. This will likely urge the teachers to be more motivated with their work as
they will understand and learn more about the personality, behavior, and actions of a child. Teachers will get to
know more about children’s foundation of development that resulted to the different experiences of the students and
the areas that a child possesses that needs to grow and needs attention. This topic as well provides more concepts
and views about preconceptions and misconceptions of development. This will be an aid to the teachers to construct
conceptual framework to guide the students in learning a topic. In addition, this would let the teachers to imply the
appropriate strategies and approaches in the course of learning. Moreover, this lesson, shall also guide the teachers
to create meaningful ways and possible means to deal with the different situation and experiences of every student
in the class.
