CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHOLOGY
This chapter outlines the systematic procedures used to conduct this study. It
describes the research design, the population of the study, the sampling techniques, the
instrumentation, and the methods used for data collection and analysis.
3.1 Research Design
The descriptive survey research method will be employed. According to Enago
(2023), descriptive research design is a methodological approach aimed at detailing
behaviours, situations, events, and outcomes without delving into theoretical predictions
or cause-and-effect relationships. This design is suitable for the study because it allows
for the systematic collection of data to describe the current state of art facilities and their
influence on student performance without manipulating the environment.
3.2 Population Of The Study
The target population for this research will comprise all secondary school teachers
and students in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State. However, the
accessible population will consist of the teachers and students within the five (5)
secondary schools selected for the study. This categorization will be used because the
exact total number of all students and teachers in the entire local government is not
predetermined for this study.
3.3 Sample And Sampling Technique
A total of one hundred respondents, ten teachers and ninety students will constitute
the sample of this research work and to select this sample, a total of five secondary will
be selected randomly and these respondents will be randomly selected in one local
governments in Ondo state although there are eighteen local governments in Ondo State
but this research will only be limited to Ondo West Local Government in Ondo State.
3.4 Instrument Of Data Collection
The primary tool for data collection is a structured questionnaire designed by the
researcher. The instrument consists of 20 attitudinal statements. Responses will be
measured using a four-point Likert scale which are: strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree,
strongly Disagree represented as SA, A, D, SD respectively.
3.5 Validity Of Instrument
After the design of the research questionnaire, the research questionnaire will be
properly scrutinized by two (2) experts and the project supervisor being a long stand
designer of such research instrument to ascertain its validity for data generation.
3.6 Reliability of Instrument
To ensure the consistency of the instrument, a pilot study will be conducted using a
small group of respondents outside the main study sample but with similar
characteristics. The data obtained from the pilot test will be analyzed using the
Cronbach’s Alpha method. A reliability coefficient of 0.70 or higher will be considered
acceptable, indicating that the questionnaire items are internally consistent and reliable
for the main research.
3.7 Method Of Data Collection
The data for this study will be gathered through the use of questionnaire that will be
designed by the researcher. The instrument will be given to both teacher and students, the
researcher will appeal to the respondent to be honest as much as possible in answering
the questions and also promise to treat every information confidential. This will be said to
have true and useful information about the study. The questionnaire will be collected
from the respondent immediately after filling them.
3.8 Data Analysis Technique
The data gathered through the research questionnaires from the respondents will be
analysed to test three hypothesis using correlation coefficient analysis and two samples
independent t-test and simple explanations will be given for clarity where and when
necessary
