Total Pages : 2]
Time: 3 Hours Max. Marks : 60
Instruction to Candidates:
1. Do not write anything on question paper except Seat No.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Figures to right indicate full marks.
4. Students should note, no supplement will be provided.
5. Graph or diagram should be drawn with the black ink pen or HB pencil.
6. Use of scientific calculator, steam table, psychrometric chart, refrigerant table is allowed.
7. Assume suitable data if necessary.

UNIT-I
1. Attempt any two of the following questions.
a) Discuss the advantages of the dense air refrigerating system over an open-air 06
refrigeration system
b) Derive an equation for C.O.P. of a Bell-Coleman cycle refrigeration system. 06
c) A refrigerator working on Bell-Coleman cycle operates between pressure limits of 06
1.05 bar & 8.5 bar. Air is drawn from the cold chamber at 10oC, compressed &
then it is cooled to 30oC before entering the expansion cylinder. The expansion &
compression follows the law pv1.3 = constant. Determine the theoretical C.O.P. of
the system

UNIT-II
2. Attempt any two of the following questions.
a) Sketch the T-s and p-h diagrams for the vapour compression cycles when the 06
vapour after compression is i) dry saturated, and (ii) wet.
b) Discuss the relative merits and demerits of flash and water intercooling employed 06
with multiple compression.
c) How does an actual vapour compression cycle differ from that of a theoretical 06
cycle?

UNIT-III
3. Attempt any two of the following questions.
a) Explain Lithium-Bromide refrigeration system with sketch. 06
b) Explain with neat sketch a practical vapor absorption refrigeration system. 06
c) Draw a neat diagram of Electrolux Refrigerator and explain its working. 06
UNIT-IV
4. Attempt any two of the following questions.
a) Define the terms: i) Degree of saturation ii) Relative humidity 06
iii) Dew point temperature iv) Specific humidity
b) Write note on Sling Psychrometer. 06
c) Atmospheric air with dry bulb temperature of 28°C and a wet bulb temperature of 06
17°C is cooled to 15°C without changing its moisture content. Find:
i) Original relative humidity ii) Final relative humidity and
iii) Final wet bulb temperature.

UNIT-V
5. Attempt any two of the following questions.
a) Define human requirements of comfort and explain comfort chart. 06
b) Classify air conditioning systems. Explain the working of winter air conditioning 06
with neat sketch.
c) Define the term 'effective temperature' and explain its significance in the design of 06
air conditioning
