What simile does Nick use to describe Jay's mansion...? page 81. Why does he make that
comparison? What has motivated Gatsby to do that?
Nick use “hide-and-go-seek” and “sardines-in-the-box” to describe Jay´s mansion, I think that
Nick use these words not only for the light that was in the Jay`s house, but is for the meaning of
the lights, always in Jay´s parties there are a lot of people, so much people if you want to find
someone in specific, its impossible, because of the people, like a sardines in the box.
Why would Jay want to do that? What is going through his head at that moment?
Jay wants to do that, because he needs to get a good impression in front of Daisy, and the grass
of Nick´s house is really ugly and ragged. Something that is not beautiful to the first date of
someone.
Why was it necessary to cut him off here?
Because Nick was uncomfortable, Jay says that Nick is poor, a rude gesture that it`s not
necessary. Then, Jay offers a place Job, another thing not necessary again, Nick has job and
earn the necessary money to live comfortably. Cut the grass is something that is not necessary
for Nick.

In this scene, Gatsby starts to feel boring and more nervous, because Daisy don’t arrive still.
Then, he tired to wait much time and take the decision of going home.
“Nobody`s coming to tea. It`s too late!” “I can´t wait all day”
Read pages 85 to 87. Gatsby's encounter with Daisy at Nicks house. How do you think it
each of the characters feels including Nick? Do you feel anything?
If I were Nick, I felt happy for Daisy and Gatsby, because Gatsby shows that is a great man for
a women and he really loves Daisy, and the other hand, Daisy loves Gatsby too, they were in
love in the past and this is the perfect moment to recovery that love.
Watch the two version of this scene, one from the 1974 movie and the other from the 2013
movie. Which do you think captures the tone of what is happening in the book? What
mood does it put you in?
I only have seen the movie form 2013, and is the same of the book, I don’t need to watch the
other version. With the 2013`s version is enough and I understand all.

MOTIF: The Weather and Gatsby...... explain what the connection is?
I don’t know, if you we can see, the weather and the emotional state is according of Gatsby are
according. When it’s raining, Gatsby is nervous, and collapsing, when the rain stops, Gatsby
stars to feel more comfortable and safe, and finally, in the sunset, Gatsby show his happiness.
“They’re such beautiful shirts,” she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. “It makes
me sad because I’ve never seen such—such beautiful shirts before.”
Gatsby comforts Daisy because she begins to cry.
WHY DO YOU THINK DAISY SAID THIS? WHAT SHOULD SHE HAVE SAID?
I think that she lied Gatsby, she must have talk about the reality, is not easy break a relationship
like Daisy and Tom, is a large process and Gatsby don’t understand that. So, Daisy knows that
is difficult, and more because she has a child in that marriage.
Motif.... It is raining...What do you think is happening to Gatsby?
At the end of the chapter, when the rain starts to fall again, Nick starts to feel uncomfortable
into the same bedroom with Gatsby and Daisy, and he decide to leave the castle and go outside
to the rain. In this part, we can understand that Gatsby and Daisy spent together the afternoon
and probably the night too. An intimate moment with emotions and action.
