The bar chart illustrates the spending patterns of consumers in the United Kingdom
and France on five different items — cars, computers, books, perfume, and cameras
— in 2010, with figures given in pounds sterling.
Overall, people in the UK tended to spend more money than the French on most
categories, except for perfume, where France recorded higher expenditure. Among all
items, cars accounted for the largest proportion of spending in both nations.
Focusing on the items where the UK spent more, car purchases represented the biggest
share, with British consumers spending just over £450,000, roughly £50,000 more than
their French counterparts. A similar pattern was seen for books and cameras: British
spending reached around £400,000 and £350,000 respectively, while figures for France
were noticeably lower, at approximately £300,000 and £150,000.
By contrast, French consumers outspent the British on perfume and showed slightly
higher expenditure on computers. Perfume purchases stood at about £200,000 in France,
compared to roughly three-quarters of that amount in the UK. Meanwhile, both nations
spent similar sums on computers, though France’s figure was marginally higher.
Bài 2. DYNAMIC BAR CHART
You should spend about 30 minutes on this task.
The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the
UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
The bar chart shows how much time people in the UK spent making three types of
telephone calls between 1995 and 2002.
Overall, local calls over landlines were the most popular throughout the period, although
mobile calls experienced the most dramatic growth.
Looking first at local fixed-line calls, these remained the dominant form of
communication, showing a rise followed by a moderate decline. In 1995, people made
nearly 75 billion minutes of local calls. The figure increased steadily and reached a peak
of around 90 billion minutes in 1999, before dropping back to about the same level as at
the beginning. Despite this fall, this category still accounted for the largest proportion of
total call time by the end of the period.
By contrast, both national and international fixed-line calls and mobile calls showed
continuous growth. National and international calls rose gradually from about 35 billion
to 60 billion minutes over the seven years. Mobile calls, starting from only 5 billion
minutes in 1995, grew slowly to 10 billion in 1998 and then surged sharply, reaching
around 45 billion minutes in 2002. Although mobile calls remained the least used overall,
their usage increased significantly and almost caught up with the other two types by the
end of the period.
Bài 3: STATIC BAR CHART
You should spend about 30 minutes on this task.
The chart below shows information about the favourite subjects of 60 students from two
schools, school A and school B. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting
the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart compares the favourite subjects of 60 students in two different schools,
School A and School B.
Overall, students at School A showed a clear preference for Sport, while those at School
B had more balanced interests, with Craft and Drawing being the top choice. Apart from
Sport and Science, School B generally had higher numbers of students for the remaining
subjects.
At School A, Sport was by far the most popular subject, chosen by 36 students compared
to only 5 in School B. Science followed with 9 students in School A, more than four
times the number in School B. In contrast, only a few students at School A picked Craft
and Drawing, at just 4.
In School B, Craft and Drawing stood out as the leading subject, attracting 25 students.
Language was also quite popular, with 18 students choosing it, more than triple the figure
for School A. Social Science was preferred by 10 students in School B and 6 in School A,
showing a slight advantage for School B.
Bài 4. LINE GRAPH
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The graph below gives information on the numbers of participants for different activities
at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the period 2000 to 2020.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.
The line graph depicts changes in the number of participants across five leisure
activities at a social center in Melbourne, Australia, over a twenty-year period
beginning in 2000.
Overall, the Film Club consistently attracted the largest membership throughout the
entire period, while Table Tennis experienced the most substantial growth.
In the first group of activities with stable participation, the Film Club and Martial
Arts maintained relatively consistent figures. Although the Film Club saw a minor
decline to 60 participants in 2010, it soon recovered and remained steady at around 65
members, retaining its position as the most popular activity. Likewise, participation in
Martial Arts showed only slight fluctuations between 30 and 40, maintaining a generally
stable trend over the two decades.
By contrast, the remaining activities displayed more dynamic patterns. Table Tennis
recorded a strong upward trend in membership. After remaining unchanged at about 20
participants from 2005 to 2010, its numbers climbed sharply, almost tripling by the end
of the period. On the other hand, Amateur Dramatics was the only activity to experience
a marked decrease, peaking at roughly 30 members before dropping to below 10 in the
subsequent years. Meanwhile, 2005 marked the introduction of Musical Performances,
which gained moderate popularity and rose gradually to just over 20 participants by 2020.
Bài 5. DYNAMIC BAR CHART
Task 1: The chart below details the waste disposal in one European country between
2005 and 2008.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make
comparisons where relevant.
The bar chart illustrates the amount of waste, measured in million tonnes, disposed of
through three methods — landfill, burning, and dumping at sea — in a European country
between 2005 and 2008.
Overall, the most noticeable trend is the sharp decline in the use of landfill, while burning
increased steadily and eventually surpassed the other two methods. Despite this drop,
landfill remained the dominant form of disposal for most of the period.
Landfill experienced a dramatic fall over the four years. Starting at about 1,800
million tonnes in 2005, it dropped significantly to 1,200 million tonnes in 2006, and then
continued to decrease to 900 in 2007 before reaching just 600 million tonnes by 2008 —
roughly one-third of its initial level.
In contrast, burning and dumping at sea showed opposite trends. The amount of
waste incinerated rose consistently from 500 million tonnes in 2005 to 900 in 2008,
overtaking landfill in the final year. Meanwhile, dumping at sea remained relatively
stable at around 600 million tonnes until 2007, before declining slightly to just under that
figure in 2008.
