Community Organising Team
The Community Organising Team sits within the Community Organising, Human Rights
Education (HRE), Artist Relations and Events Department (CORE) whose purpose is to
empower more people in the UK to know, claim and stand up for human rights. The
Community Organising Team’s purpose is to develop and execute a work programme designed
to increase the size, diversity and impact of Amnesty’s activist supporter base.

Senior Community Organiser – Networks role overview


This Senior Community Organiser – Networks will develop, manage and lead Amnesty’s Anti-
Racism Network, which launched in September 2022. They will be responsible for
embedding anti-racist principles across our activist base. They will develop and manage a
new small grants programme for grassroots human rights groups, initially focussed on anti-
racism. They will line manage two Community Organisers and be part of a team developing
our overall approach to building and supporting diverse, inclusive and powerful campaigning
networks.

The big picture
→ Develop, lead and manage the Anti-Racism Network

→ Lead and manage a team of people who are responsible for supporting activists in our
thematic networks to build a powerful, inclusive movement and achieve change for
human rights, win campaigns and positively change understanding and attitudes towards
human rights.

→ Develop and manage a small grants programme for grassroots human rights
organisations, initially focussed on anti-racism

→ Work with other Senior Community Organisers and Manager to develop our overall
approach to recruiting, supporting and developing a diverse group of activist leaders

→ Develop and implement effective tools, systems and processes to manage the team and
record data, report progress, analyse patterns and implement changes to continually
evolve and develop the team.

→ Be accountable for the wider Community Organising Team feeding into the scoping,
development and delivery of at least one of AIUK’s priority human right issues.

→ Coach and assist other organisers who manage activist streams to embed anti-racism
principles and practices into the work of all our existing and future activism networks and
other activism structures

→ With the support of the Senior Community Organiser – Youth - embed AIUK’s
safeguarding principles and practices throughout our thematic networks.

→ Work with other Senior Community Organisers and Manager to ensure support for the
implementation of the Activist Led Campaigns across the whole Community Organising
Team.

→ Joint management of our Country Co-ordinator Network

The day to day


→ → Build and manage relationships with organisations, influencers, partners and lead
activists to support the growth and development of our activism streams.

→ Ensure compliance with data protection and other relevant AIUK policies through the
work of the Anti-Racism Network and other networks

→ Work with Senior Community Organiser – Youth to embed safeguarding principles and
practices across this team and activism structures and ensure compliance with
safeguarding policies.

→ Organise, attend and/or present at meetings, panels, trainings and other events

→ Develop and build positive relationships between staff teams and activists and between
all activist structures

→ Work with Data Insight and Analysis team to monitor and analyse the make-up of the
activist base and adapt plans and activities accordingly to diversify the AIUK lead activist
base, and to build and deepen lasting, long term, empowered relationships

→ Work with Fundraising Teams to develop workplans and proposals to explore funding
opportunities
