Assessment Brief And Information

Coursework 1
Group Report: Responsible Innovation Design + individual component (combined 50%)

You are required to develop a product or service of your choice that solves a meaningful problem.
As part of your innovation process, you must be mindful of potential unintended consequences -
including the impact on ecosystems, communities, and societal wellbeing. Consider both short-term
effects and long-term implications, such as sustainability, ethical use, and social equity. Your final
concept should reflect a holistic understanding of innovation, balancing creativity with responsibility
and foresight.

You will use humanity-centred Design Thinking principles to guide the development of this
innovation. You will demonstrate critical thinking skills as you evaluate the implications of your
innovation holistically and work to minimise or remove these demonstrating responsible innovation.
When you have selected the issue you wish to address, you should undertake secondary research to
understand the user. You may supplement this with anecdotal research, provided the topic you are
exploring is not sensitive. Speak to your module co-ordinator about this before commencing. Use this
insight to guide your ideation and prototyping process, generating multiple innovative solutions.
Critically evaluate your ideas and select the most viable concept.

You will then develop a comprehensive business model to support its implementation. Your final
submission should demonstrate creative problem-solving, strategic and critical thinking, with a focus
on empathy-driven innovation and real-world impact.
