Today I woke up and thought about nothing in particular. The ceiling was white, but
not too white, just white enough to be boring. I wondered if ceilings ever get
tired of being ceilings. They just stay there all day, holding nothing except dust
and old thoughts. I stretched my arms and decided that stretching is one of the
most honest things a human can do. Your body never lies when it stretches.
Outside, the weather was doing its best impression of weather. It was not too hot,
not too cold, just existing. A bird sat on a wire and looked like it had an
important meeting later. I respected that bird. I do not know why, but some birds
look like they know secrets about the universe and refuse to share them.
I ate breakfast, or something that pretended to be breakfast. The food did not
taste bad, but it also did not taste like success. While chewing, I thought about
how strange chewing is. You take something that was not part of you, destroy it
with your teeth, and then it becomes part of you. That feels a little violent if
you think too much.
Time moved forward, as it usually does, without asking for permission. Minutes
passed like shy guests at a party, quietly slipping by. I tried to do something
productive, but productivity and I sometimes pretend not to see each other.
Instead, I stared at a wall and imagined it telling me stories about all the people
who ignored it before.
At some point, I thought about the word “banana.” It is a funny word. Bananas are
funny objects too. They curve like they are smiling, but also like they know
something went wrong. If bananas were people, they would be comedians with deep
emotional issues.
Later, the day became more day-like. Sounds happened. Cars passed. Someone
somewhere probably dropped a spoon. Life continued in its usual, slightly confusing
way. I felt hungry again, which was rude because I had already eaten. My stomach
has no memory.
As evening arrived, the sky changed colors like it was trying on different clothes.
I watched it and felt smart for no reason. Night came slowly, politely, like it did
not want to surprise anyone. Lights turned on, thoughts turned off, and tomorrow
waited quietly, pretending not to exist yet.
And that was the day. Nothing special. Nothing important. Just words walking
around, bumping into each other, and deciding to stay.
After night fully arrived, I realized that nights have a personality. Some nights
are loud and full of noise, while others are quiet like they are afraid to speak.
This night was somewhere in the middle. Not brave, not shy, just existing like a
background character in a movie that nobody remembers.
I sat down and thought about chairs. Chairs are strange friends. They support you,
but only when you sit exactly the right way. Sit wrong, and they punish you
immediately. Still, we trust chairs every day without question. That level of trust
feels dangerous.
My phone made a sound, which meant nothing important happened. Most phone sounds
mean nothing important. We still check anyway, like maybe this time the sound will
change our entire life. It never does, but hope is persistent and slightly
annoying.
I started thinking about words that sound serious but are actually not serious at
all. Words like “strategy” or “efficiency.” Sometimes people use these words just
to sound smart while doing absolutely nothing. I respect that skill. Doing nothing
while sounding busy is a modern talent.
Somewhere, someone was probably thinking the same thing at the same time. That
thought felt comforting and also a little scary. If two people can think the same
useless thought, how many useless thoughts exist right now? The universe must be
very patient.
I drank some water and felt proud. Drinking water feels like an achievement, even
though it is the most basic task possible. Maybe humans are just happy when they
remember to take care of themselves, even a little.
The clock kept moving, showing numbers that pretend to matter. Time is polite like
that. It shows itself clearly, but never explains what it really wants. We follow
it anyway.
At some point, I decided to stop thinking. Of course, that did not work. Thoughts
lined up like they were waiting for a bus that never came. Random memories
appeared, left, then appeared again for no reason at all. Brains are terrible
organizers.
Eventually, sleep started knocking on the door of my mind. Not loudly, just gently,
like it was asking permission. I let it in. Tomorrow would come, whether I was
ready or not. And honestly, that was fine.
Nothing big. Nothing deep. Just more words, doing their best to exist together.
