 Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC): Identify the features of and


requirements in composing a book review (EN11/12RWS).
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learner will be able to:
1. identify the features of and requirements in composing a book review
2. write a book review following the features of and requirements in composing
it
3. integrate values such as respect to various opinion
II. Subject Matter:
A. Topic/Lesson: Features of and Requirements in Composing a Book
Review(Module 5A)
B. Reference: RWS Self-Learning Module (SLM) for Quarter 4,
C. Materials/Equipment: SLMs, laptop, television/multimedia projector

III. Procedure:

A. Review:

Solicit ideas from the learners the answers to the questions below to check their
understanding of the previous lesson:

 Why is evidence needed in making a claim?


 Why do we need sufficient, relevant evidence, and sound reasoning to
support a claim?

B. Presentation:

 Let the learners do Tasks 1 & 2 in the Let’s Warm Up part of the module.
 The teacher processes the answers of the learners.
 Present the learning competencies to be achieved at the end of the lesson.
C. Analysis/Discussion:
The teacher facilitates in the discussion of a book review and its differences
with a book report. It shall be elaborated with the guidelines in writing a book
review which consists of three phases. (The teacher may use power point to present
the lesson.)
In the module (Let’s Think Critically), the learners shall be divided into groups
to read the sample book review and write a critique of it based on the discussed
guidelines in writing a book review. Presentation and sharing of outputs will be
done after 20 minutes.

D. Abstraction/Generalization:
What are the features of the “I Capture the Castle” that make it a book review?
E. Application:
The learners shall be divided in groups of four to accomplish Task 1 in the Let’s
Create part of the module. The presentation of outputs will follow after 10 minutes.

IV. Evaluation:
The learners shall accomplish the activity in Let’s Wrap Up.
V. Assignment:
Write a book review on a novel/book you have read to be submitted next week.
