GRADE 9 SCIENCE LESSON PLAN – LESSON 4
Subject: Science
Grade Level: 9
Lesson Number: 4
Duration: 60 minutes
Topic: Energy: Forms and Transformation
I. Learning Competencies: - Identify different forms of energy. - Explain how energy can be transformed
from one form to another. - Recognize the role of energy in everyday life.
II. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. Define energy and list its forms
(kinetic, potential, thermal, chemical, electrical, etc.). 2. Describe examples of energy transformation in daily
life. 3. Explain the principle of conservation of energy.
III. Materials: - Whiteboard and markers - Balls, rubber bands, toy cars (for demonstration) - Video clips
showing energy transformations - Chart paper and markers for group activity
IV. Procedure:
A. Introduction (10 minutes) 1. Greet students and introduce the topic. 2. Ask: "Where do you see energy
being used around you?" 3. Show a short video or demonstration of energy in action.
B. Development (30 minutes) 1. Forms of Energy (15 min): - Discuss kinetic and potential energy. -
Introduce other forms: thermal, chemical, electrical, nuclear, light, sound. 2. Energy Transformation (15
min): - Explain how energy changes from one form to another. - Demonstrate with simple experiments:
rubber band (elastic to kinetic), toy car on ramp (potential to kinetic), etc.
C. Application (15 minutes) - Activity: "Identify Energy Transformations" - Students work in pairs. - Identify
examples of energy transformation from daily life. - Draw and label them on chart paper.
D. Conclusion (5 minutes) 1. Recap main points: forms of energy, energy transformations, conservation. 2.
Ask students: "Why is understanding energy important in our lives?"
V. Assessment: - Participation in discussion and group activity. - Observation of students’ drawings and
explanations. - Short oral quiz: 1. Name three forms of energy. 2. Give one example of energy
transformation.
VI. Assignment/Homework: - Observe any machine or device at home. - Write a short paragraph
describing the forms of energy it uses and how energy is transformed.
