Laplace Transform Exercises and Electrical Modeling

This document is a tutorial from the Higher Institute of Digital Engineering of Tunis, focusing on Laplace transforms and electrical modeling. It includes exercises on solving initial-value problems using Laplace transforms, defining piecewise functions, and finding transfer functions in RL and RLC circuits. The tutorial emphasizes not using convolution for certain problems and provides specific mathematical tasks to complete.

Tutorial 2
Exercise 1: Laplace Trasform
1. By using Laplace transform, solve the following initial-value problem (Do not use
convolution.):
𝑦" + 4𝑦 = 4 cos 2𝑡 , 𝑦(0) = 0, 𝑦′(0) = 0
2. Consider the initial-value problem 𝑦′ + 𝑦 = 𝑔(𝑡), 𝑦(0) = 0, where
0, 𝑓𝑜𝑟 0 ≤ 𝑡 ≤ 3
𝑔(𝑡) = {
𝑡, 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑡 ≥ 3
a. Describe the function g(t) in terms of step function u(t).
b. By using Laplace transform solve the initial-value problem. Do not use convolution.
c. Create a piecewise definition for the solution y(t) that does not contain the step
function.
3. Use Laplace transform and the convolution to find a solution to the initial-value problem
𝑦" + 4𝑦 = 2√𝑡, 𝑦(0) = 1, 𝑦′(0) = −6
𝑠−3
4. Find the inverse Laplace Transform of the function 𝐺(𝑠) = (𝑠2 −6𝑠+10)2
5. Let 𝑓(𝑡) = cos 2𝑡 and 𝑔(𝑡) = 𝑒 3𝑡 . Compute f*g(t) using the inverse Laplace Transform.
Exercise 2: Electrical modelling
1. Determine the transfer function of the system shown below.

2. Find system transfer function between the inductance current and the source current in the
following RL circuit

3. Find system transfer function between the capacitance voltage to the source voltage in the
following RLC circuit
