8. State the converse of “First derivative theorem for local extreme Values”. Is the converse true?
Justify.

9. What is the largest area of a rectangle with perimeter 20 ?

10. A rectangle has its base on x-axis and top on y = 9 − x2 . Maximize area.

11. A 10m wire is cut into a square and a circle. Minimize total area.

12. A rectangle is fenced along a river with 1000 m2 area. Find dimensions that minimize fencing.

13. A box with square base and open top has volume 32,000 cm3 . Minimize surface area.

14. State and prove Rolle’s theorem.

15. Give examples to show that even if one of the hypothesis of Rolle’s theorem gets failed then
theorem may not be true.

16. Prove that between any two real roots of ex sin x = 1, there is at least one root of ex cos x + 1 = 0
