Additionally, solve the following problems.
1. Consider a second-order homogeneous ODE with constant coefficients of
the form
ay ′′ + by ′ + cy = 0 (1.1)
1
for a, b, c ∈ R such that
ϕ(t) = 5 cos 2t + i sin 2t
satisfies the ODE (1.1).
Find the solution of this ODE as in (1.1) satisfying also the initial conditions
y(π/3) = 1 and y ′ (π/3) = 0.
2. Consider a second-order nonhomogeneous linear ODE of the form
y ′′ + p(t)y ′ + q(t)y = r(t)
where p, q, r : R → R are continuous functions. Suppose that
2et + t2 , t2 , −3t + t2
are solutions of this ODE. Find the general solution of this ODE.
3. Find the general solutions of the ODEs given below.
(a) y ′′ + 6y ′ + 9y = t2 + sin(t) + cos(t)
(b) 2y ′′ − 2y ′ + 5y = et/2 cos(3t/2) + sin(t) + cos(2t)
