5s Football Rules

Duration:
● The Games will last 14 minutes in total with a brief half time break.

Team Size:
● Each team shall consist of a minimum of 8 players, of whom 5 players can be
on the field of play at a time. (5 players, 3 Substitutes)

Event guidelines:
● Matches will be held in knockout method. Considering this, only the winning
team will move to the next round.
● Every team is requested to be present before 15 mins of their respective
matches.
● All players must respect and adhere to the referee’s decisions at all times.
The referee’s rulings are final and binding, ensuring fair and inclusive play
throughout the match.
● Field Conditions - If the field becomes unsafe due to weather or other
conditions, the referee may suspend or cancel the game. Make-up games or
rescheduling will be determined by the tournament organizers.
● Deductions and Disqualifications - Teams may face deductions or
disqualification for repeated breaches of rules, unsportsmanlike behavior, or
failure to comply with event guidelines.

Play Rules:
● Kick Off - One team kicks off play for the first half, with the other team kicking
off the second half. The referee will determine who takes the initial kick-off,
either by coin toss or by a predetermined schedule. - All players must be
inside their own half for kick-off with the non-kicking players at least 2m from
the ball. The ball must be played forward and may not be touched again by
the taker until kicked by another player. Players may shoot, and score, directly
from the kick-off. - After a goal has been scored, play will be restarted by the
opposing team taking a kick-off from the centre spot.
● Goalkeeper - Goalkeepers may handle the ball anywhere within the goal
area. Once the ball has been held by the goalkeeper it must be cleared with
an underarm roll not thrown or kicked. Goalkeepers may not handle the ball
outside the penalty area at any time - if they do for any reason whatsoever a
penalty shall be awarded.
● Substitution - The referee must be notified whenever there is a substitution
of an outfield player. Goalkeepers may only be substituted once during the
game, except in the case where a goalkeeper incurs an injury and does not
return to the game.
● Ball out of play - If the ball leaves the playing area along the sideline, a
kick-in will be awarded, at the point where the ball went out, to restart play. If
the ball leaves the playing area along the goal line this will result in either a
goal-kick if final contact was had with the attacking team, or a corner kick if
the last touch was had by a member of the defending team. Corners shall be
taken from the corner spot nearest to where the ball exited play.
● Direct free kicks: Kicking, tripping, charging, striking, holding or pushing an
opponent,.Slide tackles,Handling the ball.
● Indirect Free kick: Goalkeeper not playing the ball underarm, Impeding an
opponent
● Slide Tackles - Slide tackles are permitted at a fair level of play. Unfairness
of the tackle will be decided by the referee.
● Penalty - Penalties should be taken from the marked penalty area. The
goalkeeper must be standing on the line when a penalty is taken. The penalty
taker must be identified to the referee before the penalty is taken. The penalty
taker is allowed one step before striking the ball. Where either side has
breached these rules to their advantage, the penalty will be re-taken.
● Foul Cards - The referee has the authority to issue yellow or red cards for
misconduct. Two yellow cards result in a red card, and the player must leave
the field.
● Player Conduct - Any form of verbal or physical abuse towards referees,
officials, or opponents will not be tolerated and may result in a penalty or
expulsion.
● Timekeeping - The referee may stop the clock for injuries, substitutions, or
other delays. The time lost will be added to the end of each half as extra time,
if deemed necessary.

Attire or Clothing:
● All players must wear a shirt at all times and teams must make every attempt
to ensure that all outfield players play in similar colours.
● Players should wear suitable footwear
● It is advisable to use shin guards and other equipment for the safety of
yourself as well as other players.
● For the safety of all players, jewellery items should be removed before
entering the field of play, including watches.
