Activity 1: Pair work – Discussion

 Task: Discuss the following questions:

[Link] human activities contribute most to
global warming?
[Link] do these activities affect the
environment?
 Students take turns asking and answering.
Activity 2: Group work – Problem & solution
 Students work in groups of 4.
 Each group chooses one activity (e.g.
deforestation, using fossil fuels).
 Discuss:
o Causes

o Effects

o Solutions

 Prepare a short oral presentation (2 minutes).

GLOBAL WARMING
1. Causes of Global Warming

Global warming is mainly caused by human activities that increase the

amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Firstly, the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas for
electricity, transportation and industry releases a large amount of carbon
dioxide (CO₂). This gas traps heat in the atmosphere and makes the
Earth warmer.

Secondly, deforestation is another major cause. Trees absorb carbon

dioxide, but when forests are cut down for agriculture or urban
development, more CO₂ remains in the air.

In addition, industrial activities and agriculture produce gases like

methane and nitrous oxide. For example, livestock farming and rice
cultivation release methane, which is even more harmful than CO₂.
2. Effects of Global Warming

Global warming has serious impacts on both the environment and

human life.

One obvious effect is climate change, which leads to more extreme

weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, floods and stronger
storms. These disasters cause damage to homes, crops and infrastructure.

Another consequence is the melting of polar ice and glaciers, resulting

in rising sea levels. This threatens coastal areas and small islands,
forcing people to leave their homes.

Moreover, global warming affects ecosystems and biodiversity. Many

animals and plants cannot adapt to the rapid temperature changes, so
they face the risk of extinction.
3. Solutions to Global Warming

To reduce global warming, both governments and individuals must take

action.

Firstly, we should reduce the use of fossil fuels and switch to

renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro power. This
helps cut down carbon emissions.

Secondly, protecting and planting more trees is essential. Forests play

an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide and maintaining
ecological balance.

In addition, people should adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles,

such as using public transport, saving electricity, recycling waste and
reducing plastic use.

Finally, governments need to introduce strict environmental laws and

raise public awareness about climate change.
