Sheila: Good morning everyone, today me and my group members will be presenting our verse
Luke 10:25-37 in the form of a short skit. (Introduce group members).
Sheila: scene 1 A man was left on the side of the road badly beaten hoping for help.
Man: (lying on the floor and extends hand) Help me!
Boland: (walks past and moves to the next side of the road) Oh no! Not today I have helped
enough people.
Levite: (does the same as the priest) I won’t even stop, I can't help him.
Monique: You know what. I have a long journey but this man needs my help, and he is my
neighbour. I can't watch my neighbors suffer.
Sheila: The good samaritan then picked up the man and carried him to the inn to rest and get
better.
Shelia: Our verse Luke 10:25-37 reads 25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to
test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and
with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was
attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving
him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw
the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place
and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came
where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and
bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey,
brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c]
and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will
reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands
of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Shelia: Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” This verse teaches that being a Good
Samaritan means helping others selflessly, treating them with the same care as you
would yourself. Jesus shows that our “neighbors” aren’t just our family, friends, or
people who live near us—it’s everyone we meet. The priest and Levite ignored the
suffering man, but the Samaritan showed true kindness by caring for him without
hesitation. The lesson is that love and kindness should have no limits, and we shouldn’t
think twice about putting others before ourselves.
Shelia: Scene 2. We will now be conducting interviews on different opinions people have
on this verse in the 20th century.
Aiyana: Good morning everyone! Welcome back to the Chisme. Today we have a special
guest Monique, who we will be asking some questions about this verse.
Aiyana: Okay let’s start. The first question is “how is this verse not used well today?”
Monique: Today, many people misunderstand “love your neighbor” by limiting it only to
the people they know or live near. They may ignore strangers in need, make excuses like
“that’s not my problem,” or only offer help if they expect something in return. Others
believe they can’t help because they’re struggling themselves, forgetting that help isn’t
always about money—it can be time, support, or even a kind word.
Aiyana:Great answer! The other question is how can we apply this verse today?
Monique: We can apply the verse today by showing love through actions, not just words.
It calls us to be compassionate to everyone no matter their background, race, or
religion. Real love crosses boundaries and is shown by mercy, kindness, and practical
care. This means picking each other up when we fall, helping without expecting
anything back, and even showing compassion to those we may not get along with. If we
don’t act with kindness, then who will?
