1 Teach Tongue Position (Very Important)
Lips: slightly rounded
Teeth: slightly apart
Tongue:
Lift the back of the tongue up
Do NOT touch the roof of the mouth
Tongue sides touch upper back teeth
Tongue tip stays low or slightly back
Use a mirror so the child can see
2. Sound Elicitation (Getting the /r/ sound)
Method 1: Growl Method
Ask the child to:
Say “grrr” like an animal
Hold the sound: rrrrr
Method 2: From “uh”
Say “uh”
Slowly pull the tongue back
Turn it into “rrrr
