2.1 Measure the gauge diameter along the parallel length & record the minimum value. Calculate the
gauge length as per Barbas law and punch the gauge length on the parallel length with dot punch..
2.2 Select the proper jaws to suit the sample to be tested and complete the jaw assemblies with the
middle and upper crossbeam.
2.3 Operate the upper beam jaw handle and hold the specimen tightly.
2.4 keep both the right side and left side valves in fully closed condition.
2.5 Start the hydraulic motor. Open the right side valve slowly. This will lift the lower beam slightly.
Keep the right side valve open such that lower beam is slowly moving upwards.
2.6 Go to the test mode on electronic panel/display.
2.7 Select the specimen size & put the specimen gauge diameter & gauge length in respective
location.

2.8 Now tare the reading to Zero.

2.9 Operate the geared motor and adjust the up/down. Position of middle beam to suit the proper
clamping of test piece.
2.10. Operate the jaw handle of middle beam to clamp the lower portion of specimen.
Lock the jaws in this position by operating the jaw lock handle.
2.11. Do not tare the load even if it changes from zero.
2.12. Turn the right control valve slowly to open position (i.e anticlockwise) till you get a desired
loading rate. Stop further turning of valve once the rate is set.
2.13. After rupture of specimen the pump motor will stop automatically. Closed the right control
valve, lower down the middle beam & remove the broken pieces of the test piece.
2.14. Measure the reduce diameter & extended length after joining the broken faces of the sample
on a fixture & put the valve in respective location in electronic panel-/Display.
2.15. If the extensometer is to be used for 0.2% proof test then extensometer is to be fixed with the
help of rubber band initially and to be removed after seeing the display ”remove extensometer”.
2.16. To print the graph with report, click the print option.

INSTRUCTION FOR UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE

DO’S

1. Before conducting any test on the machine switch on “DAS” & Computer.
Check “UP / DOWN” movement of middle cross head and Hydraulic pump “ON /OFF”
Switch.
2. Choose Jaws (Inserts) as per the sampleDiameter/Thickness(griping Diameter
/Thickness) or proper attachment as per type of test.
3. Check proper lubrication in between sliding face of jaws
And cross head.
4. * Before conducting any type of test take the lower cross head / upper cross head
5mm to 10mm up by operation Hydraulic pump and Left / Right hand [Link]
reaching at desired distance switch off the Hydraulic pump and close both left & right
hand valve. It will show the machine dead weight.
5. Feed proper data of sample with the operating software.
6. Hold the sample on the machine properly.
7. Tare the machine “ Dead Weight “ then apply load for testing with the help of
hydraulic systems.
8. For proof stress calculation use : EXTENSOMETER “.
9. Hold the extensometer properly with sample of suitable gauge length.
10. Please ensure both the arm of extensometer is locked in ideal condition with lock
pin. Lock pin to be taken out before starting the test.
11. After testing clean the machine properly.
12. Before leaving the machine ensures “DAS “, Computer and electrical switches are
“OFF “. Left hand valve should be open so that hydraulic piston is at lower most position
( idle condition of the machine).
13. Clean the lubrication in between sliding face of jaws and cross head and apply a fresh
lubrication in every week.
14. Apply lubrication oil ( Hydraulic Oil ) in between nut – screw of middle Cross head.
INSTRUCTION FOR UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE

DON’T
1. Take any types of fire near of the machine.
2. Operate middle cross head during live testing (Hydraulic pressure already been
applied). It will cause damage of geared motor.
3. Apply any load by operating middle cross [Link] will cause damage of geared motor.
4. Operate the machine with two phase electric connection ( 440 Volt) or voltage below
380. It will cause damage of geared motor as well as hydraulic motor.
5. Try to test or hold odd shaped jobs with standard jaws. It will harmful for the holding
assembly.
6. Take the upper / lower cross head upward more than 250 mm from lower most
position of the upper / lower cross head.
7. Try to apply more than 400 KN load. It will reduce life time of the machine or can
cause major damage of the entire machine.
8. Try to bend material, likely to come out after break, causing injury to operator.
9. Switch on of hydraulic pump in open condition of right hand valve (Oil flow control
valve ). It will apply impact load on the sample under testing which can affect the
result of sample or can injure the operator if sample breaks that time.
10. Hammering on jaws or cross head due lock of sample in the jaws. It will damage the
jaws handle. Please apply solid / liquid (Graphite / Moly grease ) lubricant in between
cross head and jaw-sliding surface.
11. Allowing of ACID /Acid Fume / alkaline granules near to the machine will cause
corrosion and rapid ware and tear of stee parts. This will affect machine life and
performance.
