Module 4: Techniques and Features of Descriptive Writing
Assignment Prompt (Answer any ONE):
Write a descriptive piece of 300–350 words on any ONE of the following topics.
Your response must:
Use at least four types of sensory imagery (visual, auditory, tactile, gustatory, olfactory, or
kinesthetic).
Include a minimum of three figurative devices, such as metaphor, simile, personification,
hyperbole, or symbolism.
Demonstrate strong descriptive techniques related to character, place, travel, event, movie,
or food.
Topics (Choose ONE):
1. Place / Travel Description
Describe a place you visited (real or imagined) that left a powerful impression on you. Capture the
atmosphere, mood, and sensory details that shaped your experience.
2. Character Description
Create a vivid description of a person you encountered who intrigued you. Focus on gestures,
expressions, clothing, mannerisms, and emotional presence to bring the character to life.
3. Event Description
Describe an event you attended—such as a festival, concert, ceremony, or public gathering. Highlight
the sounds, movements, colours, and emotions that defined the atmosphere.
4. Movie Description
Choose a movie scene that you find visually or emotionally compelling. Describe it in detail, focusing
on the tone, visuals, background sounds, emotions, and symbolic elements.
5. Food Description
Describe a memorable dish, meal, or culinary experience. Use vivid sensory language to capture
texture, flavour, aroma, and the emotions associated with eating it.
