(b) by sharing the syringe with an infected person to inject drugs
(c) by sharing a common place with an infected person (1)

3. How does zygote develop into an embryo inside the mother’s womb?
(a) The cells in zygote fuse with gametes to form embryo.
(b) The cells in zygote multiply in number to form embryo.
(c) The cells in zygote fuse with each other to form embryo. (1)

4. Bori Sanctuary and Satpura National Park are present in the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve. How do these three
areas help in protecting the plants and animals?
(a) These large areas provide artificial habitat to wild life.
(b) These large areas conserve organisms and their habitats.
(c) These large areas control the number of wildlife by preventing natural breeding (1)

5. Observe the picture carefully and answer related questions:

A positively charged glass rod is brought close to an uncharged electroscope as shown in the given image. Observe
the image carefully and answer the related questions:

(a) What would you expect to happen to the gold leaves?

(b) What would be the nature of charge on the gold leaves?
(c) The electroscope was charged by conduction or induction? Give reason.
(d) What would be the nature of charge on the leaves if the positively charged glass rod had been brought in
direct physical contact of the disc? Give reasons to support your answer.
OR
(d) State any one use of electroscope. What would be the nature of charge if rod is negatively charged?
(1+1+1+2)

6. Observe the image and answer the related questions:

a) The bulb does not glow in the setup shown in figure. List any two possible reasons.
b) Name two liquids, which when tested in the manner shown above causes the bulb to glow.
c) Name the effect of electric current responsible for above.
d) What will happen if bulb is replaced by magnetic compass and above liquid is replaced by lemon juice? Why?
OR
d) Does pure water conduct electricity? If not, what can we do to make it conducting? (1+1+1+2)

7. Two mirrors meet at right angles. A ray of light is incident on one at an angle of 30° as shown in Figure.

a) Draw the reflected ray from the second mirror.

b) Indicate direction of reflected ray.
c) How much is angle of reflection of first mirror?
d) Calculate angle of incidence of second mirror.
OR
d) State two laws of reflection (1+1+1+2)

8. Read the passage given below:

Friction opposes the relative motion between two surfaces in contact. It acts on both the surfaces. Friction depends
on the nature of surfaces in contact. For a given pair of surfaces friction depends upon the state of smoothness of
those surfaces. Friction depends on how hard the two surfaces press together. Static friction comes into play when
we try to move an object at rest. Sliding friction comes into play when an object is sliding over another. Sliding
friction is smaller than static friction. Friction is important for many of our activities. Friction can be increased by
making a surface rough.

(a) Name the kind of frictional force that will come into play as the box starts moving.
(b) In what direction would the frictional force act?
(c) What can be done in above figure to minimize frictional force in above figure? (Give two ways)
(d) Rolling friction is smaller than sliding friction. Give reason.
OR
(d) Iqbal has to push a lighter box and Seema has to push a similar heavier box on the same floor. Who will have to
apply a larger force and why? (1+1+1+2)
Section B

Assertion – Reasoning-based question.

Two statements are given- one labelled Assertion

(A) and the other labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b), (c) and (d)
as given below:
a. Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of the assertion.
b. Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
c. A is true, but R is false
d. A is false, but R is true

9. ASSERTION: In summer, the frequency of watering is lower.

REASON: In summers, rate of evaporation of water from the soil and the leaves increases. (1)

10. Assertion (A): Petroleum is called Black gold.

Reason (R): Due to its great commercial importance, petroleum is called black gold. (1)

11. Two glass jars A and B are filled with carbon dioxide and oxygen gases, respectively. In each jar a lighted candle is
placed simultaneously. In which jar will the candle remain lighted for a longer time and why? (1)

12. Name two musical instruments which produce sound by vibrating strings. (1)

13. If a charged plastic straw is brought near another uncharged plastic straw, what will happen? (1)

14. Mention the aim of Forest Conservation Act. (1)

15. Animals like frogs and fishes lay hundreds of eggs. Give one reason. (1)

16. How does vaccine work? (1)

17. Why are wildlife sanctuaries important for conservation of plants and animals? (1)

18. Name the process in yeast that converts sugars into alcohol. (1)

19. Which zone of a flame is least hot zone and why? (1)

20. It is difficult to burn a heap of green leaves but dry leaves catch fire easily. Explain. (1)
