Class two trade test questions

1: A brick molding machine is run by two motors which have similar specifications. The name plates on
the motors have the following information
i. Windings are connected in star internally
ii. Runs on 380v develops 1.2kw of power and has a speed of 1440 rpm
The motors are to run in the following sequence
i. The motors are to be controlled from two stations
ii. M2 should start 20 secs after M1 has started. Interlocks must be provided to prevent M2 from
running while M1 is being reversed.
iii. Lights must come on to show any motor is running and if an overload occurs on any motor ,
both motors should stop.

2: Motor A must start before motor B. when both motors are running and when motor A is stopped ,
Motor A cannot be started again until motor B is stopped. The emergency stop must stop both motors
and the overloads must protect them.

3:Motor A must start before motor B . when both motors are running motor A must not be stopped
unless motor B is stopped. The emergency stop must stop both motors under all conditions and the
overloads must protect them.

4: Two motors must not be on simultaneously. when the start button is pressed ,only motor A must
start. After aprox. 10 seconds, the timer must switch off motor A and switch on motor B. Motor B must
continue running until the stop button is pressed and then only motor B will stop . Emergency stop
button must stop both motors and overloads must protect both motors.

5: M2 can only be started when M1 is already running. When M1 is stopped M2 automatically can
stopped. The circuit contains an emergency stop and overloads.

6: M2 can only be started when M1 is already running. When both motors are running they can be
stopped independently by their stop buttons. The emergency stop must stop both motors and their
overloads should function properly.

7: There are two stop and start buttons, motor no. 1 starts before motor no.2. when both motors are
running and if motor no. 1 is stopped , motor 1 and 2 must both stop. The cct contains overloads and an
emergency stop.

8: M2 can only be started when M1 is already running.M1 and M 2 can be stopped independently by
their stop buttons S1 and S2 . when M1 is stopped while M2 is still running, M1 cannot be started before
M2 is stopped. The emergency stop must stop both motors. The control coil is 230V ac and both motors
have overloads.

9:Motor 1 must start before no. 2 starts running. Timer must bring in motor no. 2 and must stay
energized. There is one stop button for both motors. The cct contains overloads and emergency stop

10: M2 must not start before M1 starts. Timer brings in M2 . when M2 operates it cuts off timer, M1
and M2 keep on running.
11:M2 cannot start before M1 has started . when M2 starts to operate, it cuts off the timer and M1
;and M2 continues running. An emergency stop and overloads must also be provided.

12: Mb can only be started when Ma is already running. When Mb is stopped Ma can still run. Ma can
only be stopped when Mb is stopped. Overloads and emergency stops must be used.

13: Mb must not start before Ma. After Mb has started it must run for approx 10 secs and then stop
automatically, Ma will continue running until the stop button is pressed. The timer must be de
energized when Mb is not running, an emergency button is not supplied. Overloads must be supplied

14: Ma must start before Mb approx. 10 secs after Mb starts, Ma will stop automatically and the timer
will de energise. Mb will continue to run until the stop button is pressed. An emergency stop is not
provided. Ma wil be able to be restarted while Mb is still running but will stop automatically again after
approx. 10 secs.

15: Mb must not be started before Ma is running . Approx. 10 secs after Mb starts, Ma must stop
automatically and the timer must be de energized. While Mb is running , Ma cannot be restarted. Mb
will run until the stop button is pressed. The emergency stop will stop both motors under all conditions.
