CONSUMER RIGHTS

Aim Of the Project


• Students gain an insight and Pragmatic Understanding of the
Theme.
• Create awareness in learners.
• Enable them to understand and co relate all aspects of
Consumer Rights and consumer related issues .
• Relate theory with practice.
Guidelines for Project Preparation
• The project work will be of 5 marks in each of classes IX & X.
• The topics for project work have been specified in the guidelines.
• However, the list of projects is only suggestive. Teachers and
students through mutual discussion can devise their own projects
suited to the social, cultural and economic conditions and
common environmental issues of their locality.
• In class IX, students will do one projects related to Disaster
Management.
• In class X, students will do any one project from Consumer
Awareness / Social Issues / Sustainable Development.
Guidelines for Project Preparation
• Every student has to compulsorily undertake one project on
Consumer Awareness OR Social Issues OR Sustainable Development
• Objectives: The main objectives of giving project work on Consumer
awareness are to
• create awareness in them about Consumer Rights
• ensure their participation in consumer awareness programs
• enable them to create awareness and preparedness among the
community.
• The project work should also help in enhancing the Life Skills of the
students.
• Integrate with art wherever possible.
Guidelines for Project Preparation
Guidelines:
• In order to realize the expected objectives completely, it would be
required of the principals/ teachers to muster support from
various local authorities and organizations like the Disaster
Management Authorities, Relief, Rehabilitation and the Disaster
Management Departments of the States, Office of the District
Magistrate/ Deputy Commissioners, Fire Service, Police, Civil
Defence etc. in the area where the schools are located.
Preparation of Project:
At the end of the stipulated term each student will prepare and
submit her/his project report. Following essentials are required to be
fulfilled for its preparation and submission-
• The total length of the project report will not be more than 10 - 15
written pages of foolscap size (A-4 size).
• The project report will be handwritten and credit will be awarded
to original drawings, illustrations and creative use of materials.
• The students should continuously discuss with the teacher and
prepare a draft before finalizing the report.
Preparation of Project
• The project report will be presented in a neatly bound simple
folder.
• The project report will be developed and presented in this order
• Cover page showing project title, student information, school
and year
• List of contents with page numbers.
• Acknowledgements (acknowledging the institution, offices and
libraries visited and persons who have helped).
• Project Overview : Purpose, Aim, Methodology and
experiences while doing the project.

case studies related to consumer redressal and protection.

acquainted with the malpractices in the market.

Role of Consumer in the market place
• A consumer is the one who pays something to consume goods and
services produced. As such, consumers play a vital role in the
economic system of a nation.
• The role of a consumer is important in an economic system
because it is consumers who demand goods and services.
Consumer Movement
• The Consumer Movement is an effort to promote consumer
protection through an organized social movement which is in many
places led by consumer organizations.
Consumer International
• Consumers International is the membership organisation for
consumer groups around the world. Founded on 1 April 1960, it has
over 250 member organisations in 120 countries. Its head office is
based in London, England, with regional offices in Latin America,
Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa.

Conclusion
• At last, it is concluded that consumer awareness means being
aware of having the knowledge about the several consumer
production laws, rectified techniques, and consumer rights which
include the right to protection of health and safety from goods and
services that consumers purchase, right to be informed about the
price, quality, quantity, potency, and standard of goods.
• Consumer awareness is the necessity of the hour whether it is
about your rights, the information about the product or anything
else that can change the mind-set of the other buyers.
• There is no doubt that consumer awareness is quite more in the
present time and has helped a lot in bringing the transformation.

General Insutructions
• Teachers will initial the Project Review page
• On completion of the evaluation of the Project, it will be punched
in the center so that the report cannot be reused but is available
for reference only.
• The Project report will be returned to the students after
evaluation. The school may keep five reports each representing of
different levels from Class IX and X for record.
Distribution of Marks
Total Marks will be allocated over the different aspects of the Project
Work in the following manner:-
ASPECTS (Marks) Total

• Competencies exhibited and Presentation 2
• Viva voce 1
• Total marks for projects in Class IX/X must be for 5
