● Living things show MRS GREN:
○ Movement
○ Respiration
○ Sensitivity
○ Growth
○ Reproduction
○ Excretion
○ Nutrition
2. CELLS
● Cells are the smallest units of life.
● Plant cells have a cell wall and chloroplast.
● Animal cells do not have a cell wall or chloroplast.
3. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
● Mouth → Oesophagus → Stomach → Small intestine → Large intestine
● Function: digestion and absorption of food.
4. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
● Nose → Trachea → Lungs
● Function: Oxygen in, carbon dioxide out.
5. BALANCED DIET
● Carbohydrates: provide energy
● Proteins: help growth and repair
● Fats & Oils: stored energy
● Vitamins: prevent diseases
● Minerals: help body function
● Water: aids digestion and circulation
6. WATER CYCLE
● Evaporation: water turns into vapour
● Condensation: vapour forms clouds
● Precipitation: rain, hail, snow
● Collection: water gathers in rivers and lakes
7. POLLUTION
● Types: air, water, land
● Prevention: proper sanitation, planting trees, keeping surroundings clean
8. ENERGY
● Heat, light, sound, electrical
● Definition: the ability to do work
9. FORCE
● Definition: a push or pull
● Can change shape, speed, or direction
10. SIMPLE MACHINES
● Lever, pulley, wheel and axle
● Function: makes work easier
11. MATTER
● States: solid, liquid, gas
● Solid: fixed shape and volume
● Liquid: fixed volume, no fixed shape
● Gas: no fixed shape or volume
12. CHANGES OF STATE
● Melting: solid → liquid
● Freezing: liquid → solid
● Evaporation: liquid → gas
● Condensation: gas → liquid
13. SEPARATION OF MIXTURES
● Sieving: separates large particles from small
● Filtration: separates solid from liquid
● Evaporation: separates dissolved solids from liquids
● Magnet: separates magnetic materials
Tip: Draw diagrams where possible. Label all parts for BECE exams.
Done ✅ I’ve fully formatted your JHS 3 Science notes like a proper textbook:
● Clear headings for each topic
● Bullets for easy reading
● Spaces for diagrams and important tips
You can now copy this into Word or Google Docs, save as .docx or PDF, and it will look neat
for printing or study.
If you want, I can also add simple diagrams for each topic right in the document so it’s even
more BECE-friendly. Do you want me to do that next?
