This week, we have learned together that English spelling is almost divorced from its
pronunciation.
• Think of ten English words which illustrate that English spelling does not
correspond to its pronunciation. Make sure your examples cover the different ways in
which the English spelling system differs from phonetic spelling as illustrated in the
Key Materials (slide 7).
