Ans :
Let radius of the base be r m ; h = 9 m
Circumference of the base = 2 r = 44 m ⇒ 2 × × r = 44
r=7m

one above another to form a solid right circular cylinder. Find the total
surface area and the volume of the cylinder so formed.
Ans :r = 7 cm, h = × 50 = = 25 cm
Volume of the cylinder = r2h = = 22 × 7 × 7 × 25 cm3 = 3850 cm3
Total surface area of the cylinder = 2 r(r + h)
=2× × 7 (7 + 25) = 44 × 32 = 1408 cm2

Slant height of conical part containing water = = 5 cm
Curved surface area of conical part containing water = × 3 × 5 = 15
cm2
Surface area not in contact with water = 135 cm2 – 15 cm2

top and 2 cubic cm of water overflows. Calculate the volume of the cube
and also the length of its edge.
Ans :Volume of the cube = (5 × 5 × 1 + 2) cm3 = 27 cm3
Length of edge of the cube =
11A circus is a company of performers who put on shows of acrobats, 4
clowns etc. to entertain people started around 250 years back, in open
fields, now generally performed in tents.
One such ‘Circus Tent’ is shown below.
The tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical top. If the
height and diameter of cylindrical part are 9 m and 30 m respectively
and height of conical part is 8 m with same diameter as that of the
cylindrical part, then find
(i) the area of the canvas used in making the tent.
(ii) slant height of conical part.
(iii) the cost of the canvas bought for the tent at the rate ₹ 200 per sq m,
if 30 sq m canvas was wasted during stitching.
OR
the volume of air in the tent.
Ans :
Area of canvas used in making the tent
= CSA cone + CSA cylinder
= π × 15 × + 2 × π × 15 × 9= π × 15 × 17 + 270π
= π(255 + 270)= × 525 = 1650 m2
(iii) The cost of canvas = (1650 + 30) × 200
= (1680) × 200 = ₹ 336000 OR
Volume of air = Volume of conical part + Volume of cylindrical part = 8250

12A juice seller serves his customers using a glass as shown in figure. The 4
inner diameter of the cylindrical glass is 5 cm, but the bottom of the
glass has a hemispherical portion raised which reduces the capacity of
the glass. If the height of the glass is 10 cm, find the apparent capacity
of the glass and its actual capacity. [ = 3.14]
Ans :
Apparent capacity of glass = r2h
= 3.14 × × 10 cm3 = 196.25 cm3
Actual capacity of glass = apparent capacity – volume of
hemispherical part
= 196.25 cm3 – × 3.14 × cm3 = 196.25 cm3 – 32.70 cm3 =
163.55 cm3
13A solid is in the form of a right circular cone mounted on a hemisphere. 4
The radius of the hemisphere is 2.1 cm and the height of the cone is 4
cm. The solid is placed in a cylindrical tub, full of water, in such a way
that the whole solid is submerged in water. If the radius of the cylinder is
5 cm and its height is 9.8 cm, find the volume of the water left in the
cylindrical tub. [Use = 22/7]
Ans :
Volume of solid = volume of conical part + volume of hemispherical part
= r2h + r3
= × 2.1 × 2.1 × 4 + × 2.1 × 2.1 × 2.1 = 37.884 cm3
Volume of cylindrical tub = r2h = × 5 × 5 × 9.8 = 770 cm3
Water left in tub = 770 cm3 – 37.884 cm3 = 732.116 cm3.
14A toy is in the shape of a right circular cylinder with a hemisphere on 4
one end and a cone on the other. The radius and height of the cylindrical
part are 5 cm and 13 cm respectively. The radii of the hemispherical and
conical parts are the same as that of the cylindrical part. Find the
surface area of the toy if the total height of the toy is 30 cm.
Ans :
Radius of cylinder = radius of cone = radius of hemisphere
Total height of the toy = 30 cm
height of cone = 30 cm – (height of cylinder + r of hemisphere)
= 30 cm – (13 + 5) cm = 12 cm
l of cone = =
C.S.A. of toy = C.S.A of cone + C.S.A of cylinder + C.S.A. of hemisphere
= rl + 2 rh + 2 r2 = r(l + 2h + 2r)
= × 5(13 + 2 × 13 + 2 × 5)
= × 5(13 + 26 + 10) = 770 cm2
15The difference between the outer and inner curved surface areas of a 4
hollow right circular cylinder, 14 cm long, is 88 cm2. If the volume of
metal used in making the cylinder is 176 cm3, find the outer and inner
diameters of the cylinder. [Use = ]
Ans :Let outer radius of the cylinder be R and inner radius be r
According to the question,
2 Rh – 2 rh = 88
2 h(R – r) = 88
R–r= = 1 cm
Volume of cylinder = (R2 – r2)h
176 = [(1 + r)2 – r2] × 14
176 = 44(1 + r2 + 2r – r2)
= 1 + 2r
4 = 1 + 2r r= cm
R–r=1
inner diameter = 3 cm,
outer diameter = 5 cm.
