2. Attempt all questions from Section A and any four from Section B.

SECTION A (40 Marks)


Question 1
(a) Simplify: (2/(√7−√5)) + (2/(√7+√5)) [3]
(b) Factorise: x³ + 2x² − 9x − 18 [3]
(c) Solve: 3x+2y=11, 2x−y=4 [4]
Question 2
(a) A sum of ■5000 becomes ■6050 in 2 years at CI compounded annually. Find the rate. [4]
(b) Expand: (2x+y−z)² [3]
(c) In ∆ABC, D and E are midpoints of AB and AC. Prove DE ■ BC. [3]
Question 3
(a) The base of an isosceles triangle is 24 cm and its area is 192 cm². Find its perimeter. [4]
(b) In the given figure, PQRS is a parallelogram. Prove that the diagonals bisect each other. [4]
(c) Evaluate: (√8+√2)² − (√8−√2)² [2]

(b) Solve: 5x+2y=19, 3x−y=1 [3]
(c) The slant height of a cone is 25 cm and the radius of its base is 7 cm. Find its curved surface
area. [3]

(a) Construct an isosceles triangle with base 6 cm and equal sides 7 cm. Draw its altitude and
measure it. [4]
(b) In ∆PQR, prove that an exterior angle = sum of two opposite interior angles. [3]
(c) A solid metallic sphere of radius 7 cm is melted to form small spheres each of radius 1 cm. Find
the number of small spheres. [3]

(a) Factorise: x■ + 4x²y² + 4y■ − 25z² [4]
(b) In the figure, ∆ABC is right angled at C. Prove that AB² = AC²+BC². [3]
(c) A cuboidal tank measures 150 cm × 120 cm × 100 cm. Find its capacity in litres. [3]

(a) A sum of money doubles itself in 10 years at compound interest. In how many years will it
become four times? [4]
(b) Construct ∆ABC in which BC=5 cm, altitude=4 cm, and AB=AC. Measure AB. [3]
(c) Find the volume of a cylinder of height 14 cm and radius 3.5 cm. [3]

(a) Expand: (2x−3y)³ − (x+2y)³ [4]
(b) The sides of a triangle are 7 cm, 24 cm, 25 cm. Prove it is right angled. [3]
(c) The length of a hall is 40 m, breadth 25 m, height 15 m. Find the cost of plastering its four walls
at ■8 per m². [3]
