BASIC DERIVATIVE RULES (Calculus I)

POWER RULE

d/dx(x^n) = nx^(n-1)

PRODUCT RULE

If f(x) = u(x)v(x), then:

f'(x) = u'(x)v(x) + u(x)v'(x)

QUOTIENT RULE

If f(x) = u(x)/v(x), then:

f'(x) = [u'(x)v(x) - u(x)v'(x)] / [v(x)]^2

CHAIN RULE

If y = f(g(x)), let u = g(x), then:

dy/dx = f'(g(x)) * g'(x)

COMMON DERIVATIVES

* d/dx(sin x) = cos x

* d/dx(cos x) = -sin x

* d/dx(e^x) = e^x

* d/dx(ln x) = 1/x
