Pork farming project
The race
The choice of breed is part of the elements
very important for succeeding in your farming
Large white pure
• Very prolific, the female can have up to 14 offspring per litter (at one time).
• It adapts well to the climatic conditions of Haut-Katanga and resists diseases well.
• Its growth is very rapid with a balanced diet.
• Its meat is consumed in Lubumbashi and its sale is easy.
Number of pigs to start: 6
5 females
1 male
Weight per female: 70 kg
Purchase price per kilo for farmed pork = $6
Price for female of 70 kg x $6 = $420
Total price for 5 females = $420 x 5 females = $2100
Weight of the male breeder: 85 kg
Price per kilo = $6
Prix total = 85 kg x 7$= 510$
Total cost of purchasing pigs $2610 Engineer Zacky NDALA

Projection on reproduction (multiplication)
• We start breeding with 5 females and 1 male.
• We pair the 5 females, the gestation period is 3 months 3 weeks 3 days.
• We keep 10 small ones for each female instead of 14 or more possible;
• We will have 50 pups at the first litter for 5 females.
We mate the female twice a year (12 months).
So in a year we go from 50 small x 2 = 100 small
In the second year, we select 20 females from the births of the first round.
We will have 10 young per female x 20 females = 200 young at the first birth.
At the second litter, we are keeping 200 more pups.
This brings the total to 100 pigs (+5 females) from the first year + 400 pigs from the
second year = 505 pigs
Note: the policy of reproduction is always dictated by sales!

Profitability Projection
The live weight cost: $3
The killed kilo costs: $5
With a good diet, we will have more than 80 kilos per pig at eight months.
Let's consider
• 70 kilos standing x 3 $ = 210 $
• 70 kilos killed x 5 = 350 $
• If each month we sell a minimum of 30 heads on foot, we will have 70kg x 30 pigs = 2100 kg
So: 2100 kg x $3 = $6300
• If it has been slaughtered: 70 kg x 30 pigs = 2100 kg
So: 2100 kg x $5 = $10500

Précautions :
• Preventive treatment of all animals at regular intervals: 45 days.
• Well-balanced nutrition according to the needs of the animals due to differences in age.
• The respect of pigsty construction standards
• The distribution of animals
• Hygiene to prevent epidemics
• Etc...
